  • The goal was as simple as it was ambitious – from the very start: To design and build the most operationally efficient and safe car carrier ever seen. The result? The world’s leading deep-sea vessels in the PCTC segment, already reducing emissions by 58% per car transported compared to the industry standard. And even better – from 2027, the logistics part of our customers' value chain will be close to zero emissions when our vessels run on ammonia. Thank you to Deltamarin for a fantastic collaboration. Together, we are transforming the industry.

  • 💚 The engine is the beating heart of our vessels 💚 And these engines play a crucial role in achieving our net-zero ambitions. Together with our engine producer, MAN Energy Solutions, we are proving that removing carbon from deep-sea shipping is not just a distant dream—it's possible! Höegh Aurora is already a significant step toward net zero emissions, running on LNG today. But we’re not stopping there! By 2027, we aim to operate the world’s first ammonia-fueled car carrier—pushing boundaries and setting new standards for sustainable shipping. A big thank you to the entire team at MAN Energy Solutions and Bjarne Foldager, for their commitment and innovation! 🎥 Turn up the volume and join us onboard the Höegh Aurora to learn more about the beating hearts of our vessels!   #SailingForSustainability #HöeghAutoliners #Ammonia #Decarbonization #Shipping #Maritime #MAN // Sebjørn Dahl// Andreas Enger//Sonja Weinmann//Trine Ibsen// Video credit: Playroom Event

  • Shipping is at a crossroads. One that requires faster and bolder action. Today, Höegh Autoliners proudly represented Norway at the Green Shipping Challenge during COP29 Azerbaijan, showcasing the concrete actions we’re taking to decarbonize deep-sea shipping. Höegh Autoliners has invested $1.2 billion USD in building the world’s most sustainable car carriers, designed to run net-zero on ammonia from 2027. We don’t just talk about decarbonization. We act. With two of our twelve Aurora class vessels already delivered and in commercial operation, we are well on our way to achieving our ambitious goals. We also participated in the Green Shipping Challenge at COP28 in Dubai last year along with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Earlier this year, he endorsed our Aurora Class project at the naming ceremony of Höegh Borealis in China. The Green Shipping Challenge, co-led by the United States and Norway, encourages countries, ports, and companies to make measurable commitments aligned with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Sustainability is our strategy. With our Aurora Class new building program, we are taking a giant leap towards net zero in 2040. A concrete example of a Norwegian maritime player’s contribution to decarbonize the shipping industry. At COP29, we joined leaders - including Sue Biniaz(U.S. Department of State), Georg Børsting (Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), our CEO Andreas Enger, and others - to drive this initiative forward. Our message was clear: We are ready for net zero transportation, but you cannot go green if your numbers are red. We need a pricing mechanism for sustainable fuels to unlock net zero shipping. We are hoping that the next round of IMO negotiations on measures to reach the goal of carbon neutral shipping by 2050 will provide a solution for our industry. Together, we’re shaping a greener future for global shipping. 🌊💚 #SailingForSustainability #GreenShippingChallenge #COP29 #AuroraClass

  • Big news directly from COP29 Azerbaijan today! In a panel at the UNGC pavilion at COP29 opened by the International Maritime Organization’s Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez and Knut Arild Hareide, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund) our CEO Andreas Enger, and Sara Edmonson Global Advocacy in Fortescue announced that they have committed to working together to explore the technical and commercial requirements for a green ammonia supply chain for bunkering, from Fortescue’s proposed global portfolio of projects to Höegh Autoliners’ global bunkering. Together we already have strong commitment to reducing emissions in the shipping sector as members of the First Movers Coalition for shipping. In March 2024, Fortescue made history in sustainable shipping when its Green Pioneer became the world's first vessel to use ammonia as a marine fuel at the Port of Singapore. With our Aurora Class, ammonia-ready vessels, the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly car carriers ever built, we are proud to join forces with Fortescue. Fortescue Energy CEO Mark Hutchinson says: “Shipping is a global industry with a global regulator and today the industry is at a crossroads. The ongoing IMO greenhouse gas reduction debate must result in a clear, robust regulatory framework. There are so many transition fuels that are being peddled out there, but they are just a distraction. Only green ammonia can help us reduce carbon emissions in shipping and in turn can help us address the worst impacts of climate change. We need early incentives for hydrogen derived fuels – specifically ammonia for 2030 – otherwise, we are kicking the can down the road and leaving too large a scale up for the 2040s.” CEO of Höegh Autoliners, Andreas Enger, says “Deep-sea transportation is the single most pollutive part of shipping, and accounts for 90 percent of all maritime emissions. Decarbonizing the deep-sea segment is imperative to achieve the International Maritime Organisation’s net zero by 2050 goal for a 1.5C-aligned pathway. Partnering with Fortescue is another milestone on our path to net zero. And a reiteration to our commitment to sailing for sustainability. With this partnership, we are removing carbon from one of the hardest-to-abate sectors, sending a strong demand signal for green ammonia down the value chain. Together, we are making sustainable shipping doable, accelerating the green transition within our industry, and setting a whole new standard for deep-sea shipping.” #SailingForSustainability #Ammonia #Shipping #HöeghAutoliners #Decarbonisation #AuroraClass
