Reviewing a 3-year journey of Validate.global The results of an initiative for start-ups to open up high-growth markets. Reflecting on the fruitful partnership between INiTS | Vienna's High-Tech Incubator, Impact Hub Vienna and Impact Hubs in Accra, Kigali and Lagos, financially supported by the Austrian Development Agency. In total, Validate.Global supported three cohorts of passionate impact-driven entrepreneurs. Out of 221 applications from 21 different countries, 40 companies were selected. They benefited from a structured market entry approach, proof-of-concepts, stakeholder connections, market intelligence and travel grants. In addition, they received expert advice and access to office and event space in their target countries of Rwanda, Ghana and Nigeria. "We were able to develop a real roadmap for entering a new country. This is invaluable for attracting future investors!" was the feedback from one of the participating start-ups. And the results from the program are impressive: Over 25% of the start-ups launched projects and entered the target markets within the program duration. 50% of the start-ups continued to explore opportunities in their chosen African market after the program. 536 connections were created between start-ups and key players in the target countries. To summarize the program in the words of one start-up: "The programme has facilitated fantastic local contacts that will be critical to our success." Our learnings from Validate.global’s journey will lay a foundation for future initiatives of the implementing partners, as we are looking forward to continue supporting impact-driven innovators. The 2nd edition of the Africa Climate Finance Day (formerly Africa Climate Tech Day) was a resounding success! 🌍 This event brought together over 100 climate tech entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem enablers from Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, the US, Switzerland, and more. The day was filled with powerful insights, including a keynote from James Mwangi and engaging panels featuring leading investors and innovators. A particular point was re-echoed throughout the sessions - Collaboration at all levels of the climate ecosystem is critical to building Africa’s green economy. The speaking sessions were followed by innovative pitches by Powerfull (Techstars ‘24), Afrimash Company Limited, Dziphathu Green Tech, Owanga, Flux, and Kitovu Technology Company, representing 3 regions in the continent. Many investors in the room already indicated interest in connecting with the different startups for further conversations. We can’t wait to see what unfolds!
