  • It's men's health month and we are on about prioritizing our health. We all know that the feeling of 'i am a man", "i will be fine" can sometimes overshadow the importance of proactive measures. But the reality is, taking control of your health now can make a whole lot of difference. This post focuses on some important test you ought to do periodically as a man: Blood Pressure Check (Yearly): High blood pressure often shows no symptoms, but it's a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Get yours checked annually and discuss management strategies with your doctor if needed. Cholesterol Check (Every 5 Years): Knowing your cholesterol levels helps assess your risk for heart disease. Depending on your individual health profile, your doctor may recommend more frequent testing. Prostate Cancer Screening (Talk to your doctor): Don't wait for symptoms. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment of prostate cancer. While more common in older men, some factors can increase your risk in your 40s. Discuss the options like PSA blood test and digital rectal exam with your doctor to determine if prostate screening is right for you. Diabetes Screening (If overweight, pre-diabetic, or have a family history): Early detection and management of diabetes can prevent serious health complications. Talk to your doctor about possible risk factors and if diabetes screening is advisable for you. Colon Cancer Screening (Starting at age 45 or earlier with a family history): Regular screening helps identify colon cancer early, when treatment is most effective. Options include colonoscopy or stool-based tests. STI Testing (If sexually active with new partners): Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can have serious health consequences. Regular testing is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment to protect yourself and your partners. Remember, this list is not exhaustive. Always consult your doctor to determine the most appropriate testing schedule for your unique needs. By prioritizing these tests and open communication with your doctor, you can become an active participant in managing your health. Early detection and preventive measures are key to a long and healthy life. Let's encourage each other to prioritize well-being and break the stigma around men's health.
