🚨2024 was not just #lawschool year, but also the year I had my first 2 interviews on girl-child issues 📺🎥 I have been working on gender issues since 2018, starting with my first international volunteer experience as an SRHR Research Intern with KELIN in Nairobi 🇰🇪. Now, I am actively involved in providing gender-responsive education through my organization Human & Social Sustainability Network Africa - For African Youths In all my planning, I would never have foreseen interviews on Channels and NTA, as well as the 4 newspapers features of our 2024 GirlPower Program. Our GirlPower Program #SafeSpaces continues to make incredible impact on the lives of adolescent girls in government secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria, providing them with life skills for a prosperous future. Our team, in conjunction with Star Girls Africa, have been meeting with 300 girls from Obele Community High School and Ideal Girls Junior High School every week, to achieve our mission of increasing girls interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) industries. For the past two weeks, they were engaged in basic science experiments and interactive sessions on career pathways in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). In the coming weeks, the girls will be taught digital skills including basic coding. They will also be taken through non-traditional roles in tech and career pathways in Arts (humanities/social sciences/arts). We’re excited to see the continuous impact of the program, and how the girls will leverage these skills and resources to explore the numerous opportunities in STEAM industries! 🌍It’s International Day of the Girl-Child, and joined Channels today on the Morning Brief, to talk about pertinent issues that still pose a risk to girls in Nigeria 📍Beyond this day, I spoke about the need to accelerate girl development, mobilise political will, and invest resources in closing the gender gap. Through Human & Social Sustainability Network Africa - For African Youths, we are able to play our role. 📍I also emphasised the role of different stakeholders- companies, governments, individuals in this fight against inequality.
