🚨 #COP29: Where are the women? If only 8 out of 78 world leaders at COP29 are women, how can we expect true climate action if those most affected aren’t represented at decision-making tables? In the nonprofit ESAlogika that I founded, all top positions are held by women—not by design, but because they’ve consistently demonstrated the vision, adaptability, and accountability needed. 🌍 This is the leadership we need globally. (The leadership team consists of Carolyne Tomisson, Claudia van der Veen, Morgan Burton, Carly Mazure, Ingrid Tissot van Patot, Mariia Zavialova) True change requires concurrent action everywhere, or we risk leaving the few women in leadership vulnerable to internal misrepresentation. Let’s demonstrate inclusi@ve leadership now! 👉 I invite you to share your thoughts: How can we ensure women’s voices lead the climate conversation globally? #GenderEquality #Leadership #ClimateAction #InclusiveLeadership

#COP29: Where are the women?   Out of 78 world leaders present, only 8 are women—which is half as many as last year. How can we expect transformative climate action if those most affected aren't truly represented?     Women & girls represent a striking 80% of all people displaced by climate change. We’re bearing the brunt of its impacts, yet lacking a seat at the table.    Azerbaijan’s COP29 Organizational Committee was originally comprised of 28 men and ZERO women. After a global call from 88 women leaders, the committee added 12 women and 2 additional men. Our 2024 Barometer revealed that 71% of people in G7 countries think that gender inequality is widespread today in the world. Awareness is not the issue—representation is.   Women are some of the strongest voices for action: 🌍 Women are 2.5x more likely to demand government action on climate. 📢 Women are 60% more likely to use their voice for positive change. 🗳️ Women are twice as likely to engage civically on climate issues.   In the words of Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN Special Envoy on Climate Change, "Climate change is a man-made problem that requires a feminist solution." It’s time to recognize that inclusive leadership is essential for real climate progress.    We urge organizations, governments, and individuals to demand gender-equal representation at decision-making tables and insist on policies that prioritize the experiences and solutions of those most affected. Join us in amplifying women’s voices and pushing for the inclusive climate action our world needs. Share this message, advocate for representation, and help us bring lasting change.   SHE Changes Climate Alice Durand-Réville Tori Tsui Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim Olga Givernet Agnès Pannier-Runacher Nannette Lafond-Dufour Leïla Grison Mathieu de La Souchère Laure Modesti-Jubin    #WomensForum #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan #WomenLeadingOnClimate #ClimateJustice #WomenInLeadership #GenderEquality

Arriving under a leaden sky 🌧️ at #COP29, my expectations are admittedly low—a mix of excitement tinged heavily with resignation. This sentiment echoes beyond the event itself, as public awareness around the meaning and role of COP conferences remains frustratingly limited. According to an Ipsos survey for Amref conducted during COP27, 70% of Italians didn’t know what COP was about, and this lack of understanding likely extends across other countries as well. Perhaps that obscurity offers a protective layer, because the start of COP29 already feels steeped in controversy—dubbed the “#finance COP” 💰, marked by an unusual level of “ghosting” from global leaders, and hosted once again in a petro-state 🛢️. Before rushing to conclusions about its worth or limitations, it’s crucial to clarify what’s truly at stake here: #ClimateFinance 💸 COP29’s headline focus is on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG)—the financial target aimed at defining the scale and mechanisms of funding to help developing countries combat climate change and achieve a just transition. This focus on climate finance, while essential, is a far cry from straightforward, with the only real point of agreement being that, indeed, consensus is desperately needed 🤝. Article 6 and Voluntary Carbon Markets (#VCMs) 📊 Carbon markets, particularly voluntary ones, remain a significant point of contention. After years of stalemate, some see this as COP29’s opportunity to secure a “strong win” 🏆—similar to the breakthrough on Loss and Damage last year. Yet the divisions run deep. National Climate Commitments (#NDCs) 🌍 The Paris Agreement mandates that countries update their national climate plans every five years, with the next deadline looming in February 2025. In theory, COP29 could set the stage for early announcements, though any such move remains tentative. #EnergyTransition 🔋 COP29’s location in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the heart of a petro-state where oil is regarded as a “divine gift” and accounts for 90% of exports, poses a stark irony. According to a recent report by Urgewald and CEE Bankwatch, Azerbaijan is actually on track to expand gas production by a third over the next decade. This comes with $41.4 billion in projected investments, and SOCAR, the state oil company, spent nearly $300 million from 2022-2024 on new oil and gas exploration. This expansion, which could emit up to 780 million tonnes of CO₂ flies in the face of scientific consensus, which insists that most gas reserves should remain untapped to limit warming to 1.5°C 🌡️. This is my first COP, and while Azerbaijan's fossil fuel focus is troubling, the real issue is the COP framework itself—it risks becoming a greenwashing platform for countries tied to fossil fuels 🌐. But skepticism doesn’t mean dismissal. Despite its flaws, COP remains a vital marathon, not a sprint 🏃♂️, and should be judged by its long-term impact, not isolated events. • 👭🏻🗣️ It’s easy to have conversations online, but sometimes meeting face-to-face makes all the difference!✨ At this year's #NoParkingDay in Milan we experienced that by turning a simple roundabout into a hub of ideas, creativity, and community! 🌱🚗 🚫 💪🏻 Thanks to the support of Municipio 4 Milano and Comune di Milano, and in partnership with The Climate Reality Project, Osservatorio Parigi, L'Affresco del Clima and Associazione Giacimenti Urbani, we transformed an urban space into a place for dialogue, learning, and fun activities around sustainability ♻️🎉 💡We made a role-playing game that got everyone involved, from young children to older adults, in thinking about urban sustainability and how to make public spaces more vibrant and inclusive! 💬🏙️🌳 We brainstormed how to transform the roundabout into something greener, more accessible, and beneficial for the local community 🐶🌈 🤲🏻 This helped connect with one another, step into each other’s shoes and see beyond our own little garden 👀🌷 🌟 Key takeaways from the initiative: ✅ Community first: Urban sustainability (and not only) starts with listening to the local community’s needs and ideas. Every voice counts! ✅ Hands-on engagement: Simple games as role-playing can be a powerful tool for communicating differently, connecting and making complex topic much more accessible to everyone ✅ Connecting generations: Bringing together diverse age groups fosters understanding and shared commitment to sustainability ✅ Small actions, big impact: Even small ideas and local changes can contribute to a larger impact on our environment! This was a wonderful reminder that sustainable change starts right in our neighborhoods, and that citizens truly want more sustainable cities, so let’s do our best to amplify their voices! 🏡📢 #Sustainability #SustainableCities #ClimateAction #CommunityEngagement #CommunicateSustainability
