Imagine booking a movie ticket and ordering popcorn and drinks through the same app! That could be possibility as Zomato just acquired Paytm’s Entertainment ticketing business Paytm Insider for a whopping Rs 2,048 Crore! After their record smashing Blinkit acquisition, only time will tell if Zomato can pull off another masterpiece. Zomato has nearly completed the entire customer cycle with this move : - You can buy food and drinks via Blinkit. - Get them delivered to a PVR or any event ticket via Blinkit. - Book PVR or any event tickets on Zomato. The only thing missing now is cab service within the same app that can take you to and from the venue. Zomato would then be building an ecosystem where a user doesn't really have to migrate to other apps for other necessities like food and last-mile delivery #paytm #zomato #blinkit #acquisition

The Cashback Strategy is Not Gonna Work Anymore! Here's why Remember the excitement surrounding GPay's launch and its cashback scratch cards? Feels like forever ago seeing the cashback, right? Back in 2017, the UPI market share looked like this: BHIM - 52%, PhonePe - 16%, Google Pay - 12%, Paytm - 4% Within a year, by 2018, here's how the market share changed: GPay - 39%, BHIM - 34%, PhonePe - 14%, Paytm - 6% It's all the transformation that happened because of the referral strategy and cashback offers; they played a significant role in GPay's user base growth in 2018. Referral incentives likely attracted new users, and cashbacks encouraged existing ones to make repeat transactions. So, the change in 2018. Now, CRED enters the market with the same strategy of cashback, coupons, and great ad concepts that are everywhere. Three and a half years later, this is the state today: PhonePe - 50%, GPay - 35%, Paytm - 9%, Cred - 1%, Others - 5% The reasons for Cred to be at that state of a bare 1%, even after providing great cashback, are multiple. Here are a few: ▶ Cred is only for users with more than 750 credit scores (top 5% of the Indian audience). ▶ Cred's UI is pretty complicated for regular users. ▶ Most of their users belong to India-1; they care about product efficiency, not cashback. If these are the reasons for Cred, here are the other reasons why cashback doesn't work anymore: ▶ Users value transaction success rate more than cashback. Users need the UPI which even works at very low signals; PhonePe is the name I hear often that it even works on 2G. ▶ It's hard to teach a new UI to India-2&3. Once they get used to the product, they don't like to change often because of trust issues. ▶ Indian 2&3 don't know much about coupons as they don't know these new brands, which is the major percentage in the market share. So, with all these points, isn't the Indian UPI market looking saturated? With these observations, do you think Jupiter has any scope of entering and making an impact on the market share? Imagine buying something for ₹268 crores and selling it for ₹2,078 crores. That’s exactly what Paytm did with its ticketing business, and now Zomato has taken the control. But what’s in it for both giants? For Paytm: This deal is a huge win. With Paytm Insider generating ₹192 crores in FY23 and holding a 44.76% market share in live entertainment. This sale allows Paytm to refocus on its core strengths—payments and financial services while pocketing a 7.6x return. For Zomato: Zomato’s betting big on its new “District” initiative, aiming to dominate the “going out” economy. By integrating Paytm Insider's assets, Zomato plans to expand the market size and capital by boosting awareness and accessibility to live events. In a world where everyone is glued to their phones, this move could help reconnect people with real-world experiences. BookMyShow leads with ₹237 crores in revenue and a 55% market share (FY23), but Zomato’s push could shift the balance. Story: The other day I wanted to order Noodles 🍜 for myself and like most of you I headed to our beloved app Swiggy 🚴🏽‍♂️ (sorry Zomato) Here is the journey that I followed: 1️⃣ Open the app 2️⃣ Search for Noodles 3️⃣ Click on one of the restaurants 4️⃣ Add to cart 5️⃣ Apply Coupon 6️⃣ Make Payment 7️⃣ (Im)Patiently wait for the order To make my experience better ❤️ and get me to spend more money on the app 🤑, the product managers at Swiggy need this data. The analytical tools will help the Swiggy team: ⤴ Capture these interactions 📦 Store these interactions ✨ Create reports from these interactions The developers embed a code in the app, which sends the important interactions (app open, clicks, screen change) to these tools. These tools process and store the data at their end. These tools give you a friendly interface to get simple and advanced reports like: 👉🏽 Funnel - How people are moving from one step in journey to another. PMs can Discover any blockers. 👉🏽 Trends - How feature usage is growing or decreasing. 👉🏽 Segments - Creating and analysing various user groups based on behaviour, demographics etc. 👉🏽 Cohort Analysis - Are people engaged in the app, retention quality. and many more. The interactions are sent in the form of events. Each event contains a name and properties to contain any additional information about the event. For example: Button Click event might contains properties like text on button, operation system, app version etc. Similarly user information is also sent and store to relate events with particular users. Why you should hire a standup comedian for your startup? Think about it, it totally makes sense, fundamentals of a standup comic who makes jokes are same as a product manager who deeply understands user insight into building a product. A standup comedian would pick the most common pains of our lives, empathize with them and think of a creative way to present it to the audience. Making jokes is kind of like making new products for people to use. First, you have to understand what problems they have or what would make their lives easier or more fun. Then you have to come up with creative ideas to solve those problems, just like comedians come up with creative jokes. Comedians are also really good at trying out their jokes with audiences. If a joke doesn't work, they'll change it until people start laughing. That's like how product managers try out new products with customers. If the customers don't like it, the company makes changes(iterations) until they get it right.

The fascinating battle in the Indian OTT market continues to intensify! JioCinema's recent launch of their Rs 29 JioCinema Premium plan is a fascinating development. This is an aggressively disruptive pricing strategy, and will significantly impact the players in the industry. Let's delve into the "how" and "why" behind this disruptive move. The How: - India boasts a significant user base of 800 million internet users (thanks to Jio again), and for the majority of users, affordability is key. The new plan makes content more affordable and accessible, creating a new segment of paying users for the entire industry. - While currently JioCinema does not have an exhaustive library of content, their plan is to heavily invest in creating high-quality regional content, catering to our country's diverse linguistic audience. - A recent survey revealed that 42% of Indian subscribers juggle between at least two OTT subscriptions. This could encourage users to juggle and experiment with multiple platforms, sort of cannibalizing the existing user base of other players. The Why: - The Indian OTT market is experiencing explosive growth, and JioCinema wants to capture a significant share. - Indian audiences are known to be price-sensitive and this strategy reflects a deep understanding of this user preference. - The Indian OTT market has traditionally been dominated by global players. This pricing strategy disrupts the established order, forcing existing domestic players to adapt and protect the Indian turf. I have gotten 30 referrals during my job hunt, and in the past few days there have been numerous DMs regarding how I did it. So I have recently switched roles from senior product analyst to Product Manager, in a span of 3 months. For companies like Razorpay , Sprinto, Meesho I was able to secure interviews via refferals. This is a guide to how I did it, so that anyone of you looking for jobs can benefit and make some steps ahead in the journey. Sharing everything you need to know Refferals (Save and share🚀): Whom to ask(in order of priority because this helps with faster reverts): 1. Direct acquaintances 2. Your LinkedIn connections 3. People who have hiring label in their profile, just go to comapny profile on linkedIn-> people -> hiring 4. People who are active on LinkedIn, like just check their last months activity. I tried aiming atleast 10 people for one company. Sample referral Notes ( these are the exact ones I used) : 📍While sending Connection request: Hey [Name], How are you? 
I came across an opening at [company] for [z] role, [job id]. I graduated from [college] and have [x] years of experience in the Product team at [company]. I find myself a right fit for the role, can you refer me for the same? 📍If connection request is accepted ( you don’t want to delay this, be very proactive here): Hey [Name], thanks for accepting my request. Sharing you my resume below, would be really helpful if you could provide a referral. 📍If they have shared resume with hiring team and you want to follow up: Hey [Name], I was wondering if you could advise me on how I can track the progress of my application at [company]? Do you have a specific portal or should I follow up with someone directly? P.S: Once I realised that only asking for referral isn’t enough, it’s equally important to follow up and keep a track that you actually have received a referral also. 💡This trick definitely increased my conversions of getting referred 2-3x.
