Navigating Leadership in Today’s Israeli Landscape 🤹‍♀️ Being a manager in our current reality in Israel is undoubtedly a challenging task. Juggling numerous responsibilities while navigating uncertainty in various aspects can sometimes feel like an impossible mission. Yet, striving for excellence and achieving our business goals remains our priority. Understanding Convalescence Pay in Israel: What You Need to Know in 2024 Convalescence pay, known as “Dmey Havraa” (דמי הבראה) in Hebrew, is a unique benefit provided to employees in Israel. This payment is designed to help cover the costs of vacation and recovery, ensuring that employees can recharge and return to work with renewed energy. What is Convalescence Pay? Convalescence pay is an additional financial benefit employers must provide their employees. Originally intended to cover the costs of staying in a recovery home, it now serves as a general vacation allowance. Employees are not required to present receipts for their expenses, making it a flexible benefit that can be used as needed. When is it Paid? Convalescence pay is typically disbursed between June and September. The amount varies based on the employee’s tenure and sector. For example, in 2024, the value of one convalescence day is ILS 418 in the private sector and ILS 471.4 in the public sector.   Who is Eligible? To be eligible for convalescence pay, an employee must have completed at least one year of employment with their current employer. The number of convalescence days increases with the length of service. For instance, after the first year, employees receive four days, and this number gradually increases with seniority. What’s Special This Year? In 2024, there are significant changes due to the October War. The Knesset (The Israeli Parliament) has legislated a freeze on the value of convalescence pay, keeping it at the 2023 rates. Additionally, employees will receive one less convalescence day this year. This adjustment is part of broader budgetary measures to support reservists and manage economic impacts. These changes highlight the importance of staying informed about employment benefits and understanding how they may be affected by broader socio-economic factors. What can getting out of the house in a hurry teach us about properly preparing for a job interview?. Losing a job can be incredibly challenging, but it's also a chance to showcase your strengths and readiness for new opportunities. When you're interviewing for new roles, it's crucial to demonstrate to the hiring manager or HR professional that you have done your homework and are fully prepared to bring your unique skills to their team. Take inspiration from the insightful post attached. In the story, a couple was at the door preparing to go off to see a show. The woman was in a hurry and waiting, while her husband remembered to check if the air conditioner upstairs was left on. He walked up the stairs slowly, without any indication of acknowledging his partner's stress. This caused frustration because, had he shown urgency or stress, it would have made a difference. The effort and visible concern would have been appreciated, even if the time taken was the same. This concept is supported by research on IT professionals in high-tech companies, showing that effort and attempts to solve a problem often increase satisfaction more than the actual resolution itself. People feel valued when they see effort being made on their behalf. Translate this to your job interviews. Don't let the interviewer guess how your previous experiences and your ability to lead research on specific technologies benefited your past projects. Make it clear. For example, explain how your initiative in leading a technology research project directly contributed to the successful development of a product, and then connect that to how this same proactive approach will be beneficial for their team and projects. Use the knowledge you have about the company, its products, and its people. When you answer questions, make a connection to the role you're applying for. Show that you're not just experienced but also prepared and eager to contribute to their specific needs. For instance, if you're asked about a past project, describe it and then say, "This experience will help me in your team because it aligns with your current initiative to integrate new technologies into your product line." Remember, the effort you put into understanding their needs and showing how you can meet them will be appreciated more than just stating your qualifications. It's about making them feel you've tailored your preparation for them, much like how visible effort can enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty as described in the post. 10 Mistakes to avoid in Global Hiring: We recently acquired updated stats of Israeli startups (we won’t mention the companies here) that hired and fired CRO’s, VP Sales and Enterprise Account Exec’s in the U.S. after only 6-12 months on the job! Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky.
