I turned off my computer, rolled up my sleeves, put on sportswear, and traveled from Tel-Aviv to rural areas to help farmers harvest their crops, whether under the sun or in greenhouses.
My hands got dirty, my body sore, but it made me feel so good, energized, and especially thankful to be alive! 🙌🏻

As a personal initiative, I’ve built and deployed a community for Brazilian professionals in Israel that I've been leading since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, in 2020.

The initiative is supported by the 2 leading olim (newcomers) NGOs:
    • Gvahim (an NGO that provides highly-skilled new immigrants and returning citizens with the tools to build a successful career in Israel)
    • Beit Brasil (an NGO that supports Olim Chadashim/Newcomers to Israel from Brazil).

We offered a bi-weekly online series, in Portuguese, for all the Brazilian community living in Israel. You can watch all the recordings on Youtube: https://bit.ly/3cd4qgEA.
Now, there's a Facebook group. If you're a Brazilian living in Israel, you're welcome to join us: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kadimabrasil.

    The community’s objectives are:
    • Build and strengthen the community of Brazilian professionals living in Israel
    • Create and consolidate a network of professional relationships (networking)
    • Share tips and shortcuts in the Israeli job market, which many of us who arrived in Israel first had to find out for ourselves!

    Articles about the initiative:

That’s why KeepOlim created “No Oleh Alone” for the holidays, where Olim are personally placed with warm embracing Israeli hosts families. Hundreds of Olim have participated in this program which has developed friendships for many of the participants. In fact for some Olim, this is their first time celebrating the Jewish holidays.

Monica has started to cook and sell delicious Brazilian finger food, while working as a "ganenet" (kindergarten teacher).

I built and deployed a new community of Brazilian professionals living in Israel, KadimaBrasil.

In just 90 days, we reached +500 members and growing at a ~25% new members rate per live event.

So far, I've led 10 engaging virtual events and my #YouTube channel has more than 1,000 views.

The community was born during the lockdown imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. But the story began one year before with a WhatsApp group I initiated with a small group of very special people who are also passionate about helping brave newcomers in Israel.

The group is called GENTILEZA GERA GENTILEZA ("Kindness generates kindness"), a well-known phrase in Portuguese coined by a Rio urban philosopher known as Prophet Gentileza.

Caroline Hauser Slapak certainly has earned the title of international job seeker. Born and raised in Brazil, Caroline had spent her professional career working as a management consultant in Brazil. When crime was becoming intolerable in her native country, she took a leap and embarked on a new life in Israel in 2016.

Although her Israeli language skills were still rudimentary, with the help of a non-governmental agency, she was able to land her first role as a project manager and business analyst for a global company where her command of English sufficed. Unfortunately, her position was eliminated within two years as a result of an acquisition.

Surprisingly, her second take as a job seeker was long and exhaustive, and much tougher than her first.

Through volunteering, freelancing and blogging, and by leveraging LinkedIn to its fullest –while continuing to hone her Hebrew language skills – Caroline was hired after 12 months of job hunting. Today, she is a consultant with Moore Management Consulting, an Israeli Management consultant company.

As a new immigrant to Israel, I’m grateful to see so many institutions working hard to improve the absorption and integration of olim chadashim. Kudos to Gvahim, the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo and Urban Place for partnering on this important event.
