Over the past decade, I have reviewed over 1,000 cv's in search for the best team members to join our team. I see a lot of people in Israel in need of jobs these days so sharing some tips from my experience as a manager and Organizational Psychologist that I hope can be helpful. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to comment below or pm me. I divided the job-seeking journey into 4 stages: 1. Self-reflection 2. CV building 3. Networking 4. “Dating” your future boss In this post I will cover some pointers for the first 3 stages. Next post will cover pointers for the last stage. *Self-reflection* 1. Self-reflection and understanding what you are good at and what you are passionate about. 2. Who are you - Need to be able to answer this in 2-3 lines at the top of the CV. Are you a manager and looking to be in a leadership role or more of a hands-on executive? Is your focus marketing/sales/coding/project management? Pro tip: Ask your friends to be honest with you and share the value they see you bring. It will crystalize your own view as well. *CV and LinkedIn profile* 1. CV building - how does your future boss know you are great at what you do? What success and impact did you have that you can articulate with numbers? 2. The design is great. But the most important is the content. Make sure clear description in the header what you do and keep it short, with bullet points and a 1-pager. Make sure no mistakes. If there is even 1 typo, it is a no-go. 3. Passion talks. Years ago I hired a young man with very little experience because he came with great passion and told me how he taught himself code at age 11. See how you can find that story that highlights your greatness. *Networking* 1. Networking and asking friends for an intro or to put in a good word. Identify 10 people you will have coffee with to brainstorm your career. Some will give you great advice. Others will give you a good lead. 2. Don't only think about networking with those who can give you the job today but rather with those who know people that can help you. 3. The best way to build trust is to show your work in action. I once hired someone because he reached out and explained to me in a loom video why one of my client websites stinked and how that can be fixed. He didn't tell me what he does but showed me. What tips have you found as a manager that you would give future employees?

𝗜’𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 for myself and all my fellow not-that-good-at-Hebrew-yet backend developers. No, really. Coming to an interesting meetup and realizing it’s in Hebrew is quite a bummer for me right now. The translator currently converts audio to text in real-time with a delay of 5-7 seconds. The speed also depends on the speed of the speaker's speech. The faster they speak, the shorter the delay. The estimated cost of such a translator is $10 per hour. To give you a benchmark, a real simultaneous translator costs $50-150, depending on their qualification. The AI translator costs 5-15 times less. An acceptable delay for a professional simultaneous translation is 3-5 seconds. My AI translator's delay of 5-8 seconds hasn't crossed this threshold yet, but it's close. AI requires a stable internet connection with a speed of at least 5 Mbit/s. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: Unfortunately, ready-made solutions for Hebrew to English are scarce. English to Hebrew could be fixed fast, and would possibly even meet the norm, but vice versa it’s hard. Maybe new ready-made AI solutions with good Hebrew support will appear, allowing me to speed up my bot. I also plan to conduct tests on the quality of simultaneous translation. Let's see how the AI performs regarding translation quality.

When I launched IndiePa.ge in March 2023, it was a link-in-bio tool. It made less than $1,000/month for a year. The domain authority grew from 0 to 58 because customers connected their domain names (more backlinks). I was surprised, so I tweeted. More people bought IndiePage for the backlink. The domain authority grew even more. Now it's like a little flywheel, it's not stopping: Higher domain rating → More value for customers → More revenue → More backlinks → Higher domain rating. A perfect example of: - How entrepreneurship is unpredictable (keep shipping) - How easier it is to make money with painkillers (vs. vitamins)

TL;DR - You're likely overpaying for your cloud-database infrastructure, and it remains the weakest link in your SLA chain. When Tal Tamir and I embarked on our mission to optimize relational databases in the cloud with Rapydo, we initially didn't grasp the real root cause of high database costs. After engaging with hundreds of Amazon RDS users, we realized that high costs are merely a symptom of a few deeper issues. Cloud applications can scale infinitely, but your RDBMS cannot. This disparity creates a significant challenge: while your applications scale out seamlessly, your databases are limited to scaling up. This forces companies to prepare for worst-case scenario spikes around the clock. This challenge is particularly prevalent among the cloud-native businesses we spoke with, where over 90% rely heavily on RDBMS. Even with over-provisioning to handle potential application spikes, DevOps teams cannot be certain that the next spike will be absorbed by the available CPU and I/O resources. This uncertainty results in overpaying for database infrastructure while still facing the risk of performance bottlenecks. Three Israeli Startups Selected For Google’s AI First Accelerator 15 companies were selected for the Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First, among them there are 3 companies from Israel. The program will take place over 10 weeks. It was developed in partnership with Google Cloud and Google DeepMind. The chosen Israeli participants are: - Bagel AI (Yakum, Israel) empowers product teams to continuously quantify and validate their roadmap, maximize impact, and accelerate revenue.  - Dtect Vision (Tel Aviv, Israel) addresses the growing threat of misinformation in the finance sector by leveraging AI to detect deep-fake video, audio, and content. - Geneyx Genomex Ltd. (Herzliya, Israel) is an AI bioinformatic multi-omics platform for clinical genetics data management. Startups will also benefit from additional support and expertise from Google AI and receive Google Cloud credits.
