Our 7th CoP session is here!   In June 2024, SUSMETRO: Sustainable Design for Metropolitan Landscapes, one of the partners in the FEAST consortium, facilitated a dynamic co-creative session on the lock-ins, barriers, and opportunities in transforming city-region food systems as part of the final event of the #Cities2030 project: Agri-Food Justice and Policy Innovation.   🚀 During this insightful session, 13 food-related Living Labs from across the Cities 2030 project shared their experiences, tackling critical barriers and identifying promising opportunities within their food innovation practices.   🤝 In the spirit of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, Susmetro is organizing a Community of Practice (CoP) session to present the key insights and results. These challenges and solutions resonate with many of you working in similar Living Lab environments. 📢 Adam's Story and FEAST's Mission!   Meet Adam, the Membership and Engagement Officer at BEXLEY MENCAP, and a passionate advocate for individuals with learning disabilities!   At the FEAST London Hackathon, Adam's participation went beyond just ideas. Having lived experience with a learning disability, he offered a unique perspective on the daily struggles faced by this community, particularly when it comes to accessing nutritious food and overcoming unhealthy dietary choices.   Adam's story highlights a critical challenge: “Individuals with learning disabilities often face barriers to a healthy diet.”   That's where FEAST comes in!   Through hackathons like the one in London, FEAST fosters collaboration to develop technology-driven solutions. Our goal? The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the FAO (FAO) of the United Nations have recently released their #AgricultureOutlook (2024-2033) with some amazing findings and numbers. We have tried to jot down a few takeaways for Europe w.r.t the global numbers, as listed below:   🔹 Meat Production 🥩 - Global: Projected to rise by 12% or 41 Mt cwe (metric tons of carbon-weighted equivalents), reaching an estimated 388 Mt cwe by 2033. - Europe: Expected to face lower meat production due to stricter environmental legislation, high inflation, animal diseases, and a declining herd population.   🔹 Poultry Consumption 🍗 - Global: Projected to reach 160 Mt rtc (metric tons of radiative forcing-weighted equivalents) by 2033. - Europe: Although consumption will grow, there may be a shift towards poultry meat, replacing beef, pig meat, and sheep meat.   🔹Sheep Production 🍖 - Global: Anticipated to reach 19 Mt cwe by 2033. - Europe: Production is projected to increase marginally from current levels.   🔹 GHG Emissions from Livestock 🏭 - Global: Projected to rise by 6% by 2033. - Europe: Emissions from meat production are expected to decline by 6%. There is a shift in meat consumption patterns in Europe. People are gradually inclining towards poultry rather than pig meat consumption. Do you know why? Meet the Project Lead Behind Oxfordshire's FEAST Living Lab!   Caroline Welch, ANutr is the project lead at Good Food Oxfordshire (GFO), spearheading the Living Lab for FEAST in the UK. At GFO, we're dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities within our existing food network, focusing on parents with children under 5 and adults over 65. Our goal is to understand the challenges they face regarding food security and collaborate on co-designing effective solutions.
