Liability insurance in another EU country
Liability insurance
If you move to another EU country, or set up a business there, you must find out which types of insurance are required. While some insurance policies are mandatory (like motor insurance), others are optional (like pet insurance). Insurance policies can also be linked to certain contracts (such as fire insurance as part of a rental agreement with a landlord).
Professional liability insurance
Liability insurance protects you as a professional from the financial consequences of legal claims in case your activities cause injury or damage to people or property. Some types of incidents are excluded, such as intentional damage or criminal acts.
EU countries can impose, under certain conditions, mandatory insurance for certain professions. If you want to provide professional services in another EU country on a permanent basis, and you are already insured, you have the right to have your insurance (fully or partially) recognised in that EU country.
If you want to provide professional services cross-border from your home country on a temporary basis, the other EU country can impose certain insurance requirements for reasons related to public policy, public security, public health or protection of the environment.
Insurance for employees
If you employ staff, check what insurance you must have to cover your employees from accidents in the workplace, i.e. occupational accidents. Find out more about insurance requirements in each of the countries below.
