++ This is Not a Post for Sympathy, But a Crucial Reminder that taking care of ourselves should always be priority number one. ++ Last December, I arrived in Łódź for business in the early hours of the morning, only to be hit by severe tooth pain. The kind that makes you rush to the emergency room, desperate for relief. Little did I know, this was just the beginning. Back in Romania, where I was having my "work abroad" stint, my partner took me to the dentist. What we discovered was far more serious than I could have imagined: a severe issue with my upper jaw that, if left untreated, could lead to facial collapse. The reality of this hit hard. I had to undergo surgery, and the process is still ongoing. Just this Monday, I underwent another procedure. Now, I find myself living, working, and traveling with a swollen face and temporarily missing a frontal tooth until the end of the month. This experience has taught me a crucial lesson: taking care of ourselves is non-negotiable. As someone with dental phobia, I realize my fear could have put me in an even tougher situation. Ignoring our health can have serious consequences, and it's a stark reminder that we must always prioritize our well-being. So just just keep this in mind; in our fast-paced lives, it's easy to put off those check-ups, to ignore that persistent pain, or to let fear dictate our actions. But we owe it to ourselves and our loved ones to stay on top of our health. Self-care is not a luxury; it's a necessity. The economic development in Germany is currently under a lot of pressure. This is also visible in my area of passion the #automotive industry and the transition to #e-mobility. But we believe that a pivot is possible. Here is our latest perspective on “A pivot for Germany – All for growth and growth for all”. My takeaways from the Generative AI for the Automotive 2024 event Last week, I participated in the "GenAI for the Automotive" event in Frankfurt, where I presented the topic: "Beyond Words: How Knowledge Graphs Improve Automotive #llm Applications." where I showed the benefits of integrating #llms with #kgs to develop LLM-Based assistants with improved accuracy, addressing challenges such as hallucination, updateability, and provenance. We must connect to clean, well-defined data sources to leverage #llms. #kg brings the last crucial layer – knowledge integration, the last crucial mile for accurate LLM apps. I also present how the Fraunhofer #KISA_FhG Taskforce (FIT, FOKUS, IDMT, ZV) can support building applications with a strong combination of in-house components. But I could also better understand the potential applications of Generative AI models in the automotive, for example: - Support compliance with increasingly complex regulations in the automotive, e.g., by automatically analyzing regulations, policies, and standards against your design decisions. - Increasing creativity during vehicle design by automatically generating variant designs, e.g., of the wheels. - Improving productivity during the engineering phase by analyzing requirements and helping fix them. - Improve the in-car assistants with more natural and engaging interaction, plus recommendations.  - Self-driving car planning, generation of scenarios to test self-driving cars, and a lot more here. - Customer support and engagement, e.g., by getting continuous updates on your car building, preparation, and delivery process. We discuss topics like AI regulations, e.g., the EU AI Act, safety, the performance of open source models, fine-tuning or not fine-tuning that is the question, and much more. We definitely plan to write about the challenges and opportunities of GenAI in automotive based on discussions and ideas we got during the event. Thanks to my team Moritz, Nils, Areesha, Yan-Ying, and Abhishek for their contributions and efforts to prepare our participation.

Is a navigation service core or non-core for a car manufacturer? What about helping people arriving on time at a meeting in urban areas? What about helping people to organize a weekend trip with friends? There are many "jobs-to-be-done" where a car may play an important role. In all of these examples people cannot get the whole job done just by using a car. It takes planning, preparation, knowing how to execute a travel, monitoring, and knowing how to modify a travel or the mode of transportation. And not to forget about "the last mile" when finishing a travel (at the point of destination). A car manufacturer may decide if any of these jobs or job steps are considered "core business" or if that term only covers an existing product that currently generates revenues (e.g. car sales). Depending on how a company defines its core business (e.g. the existing line of products, or the core job that is being supported with different solutions) may change how innovation is being managed, focused and budgeted. In a nutshell: Innovating in a non-core business is first of all a question of how you define it, and then a question of how to create a mindset towards helping customers get their jobs done better;)    What do you think? After 1 year, 7 modules and many hours of practice, this past weekend I earned my very first German certification: #Mediator in business context. #Consultant, #Coach, #Moderator. As internal consultant at Bosch I switch between these different roles on a daily basis, sometimes even within one working session 👩🏼‍🔧 I´m used to apply special methods and communication techniques to structure & control the process. Most of the time there is a #FunctionalConflict that is typically characterized by parties working together to resolve the conflict in a constructive way. When the conflict is deadlocked, and the parties do not want to talk to each other at all, it is time to involve a mediator. #DysfunctionalConflict is a disagreement or conflict in which each side of the argument is using or trying to use the other side to achieve their own personal goal. It is often destructive and leads to tension, anger, and resentment. Handling conflict in a constructive way can save a relationship & the business❗️ This is my main drive to guide leaders and teams as a mediator! ❤️ By doing so, I use my skill set & strengths related to my other roles: 🔹Problem-solving skills 🔹Active listening 🔹Thinking about all perspectives and explaining them to others 🔹Empathy & emotional intelligence 🔹Accountability On top of these there is one trait required as a good mediator that was essential for my personal growth: 🔹Objectivity - To avoid becoming emotionally involved and to stay neutral and independent in my judgment. Being a solution-oriented consultant who enjoys steering the business process actively, this was a challenge at times. On the way I learned, that it is possible to have an opinion and still give space to the parties to find their own solution. What a journey. Difficult news from Germany yesterday, with Volkswagen announcing factory closures (for the first time ever in their 87-year history in Germany), as well as significant layoffs and pay reductions impacting all staff. The slowdown in EV adoption and fierce competition from Chinese manufacturers are the driving forces behind this move. Reports indicate that Volkswagen is now selling 500,000 fewer vehicles annually compared to pre-Covid levels. How can Germany and Europe strengthen the competitiveness of our automotive sector? What steps are needed to accelerate the adoption of sustainable, advanced technologies in our automotive industry?

Trying to measure “Innovation Strength” of OEMs in 2023 (!), and showing the top sellers in the BEV group - published today by Handelsblatt While I cannot change the Handelsblatt material and I find it really well done I suggest to call it “Electromobility Innovation Ranking” - see below *** why. A few details are needed. ➡️ The source of the ranking is the institute lead by Stefan Bratzel, Prof. Dr.: Center of Automotive Management (CAM) ➡️ the 2023 BEV Sales ranking on the right is straightforward ➡️ the column on the left is listing GEELY as leader for 2023 ➡️ interesting how neither Tesla or BYD took the top spot on the left, and where they are placed for 2023. ➡️ the long term ranking by innovation reads: 1 Tesla 2 Volkswagen Group 3 Geely 4 BYD 5 Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) *** ➡️ Methodology for the 2023 ranking: CAM individually evaluated 512 innovations in electromobility for the past year alone that ended up in the sold product. Chinese manufacturers have developed 45 percent of these product and technology innovations and brought them to series production.
