Element5 was happy to be on hand to support yesterday's funding announcement of the Tiny Hope #affordablehousing project in our hometown of St. Thomas. Ontario’s Associate Minister of Housing, Vijay Thanigasalam announced $2,494,960 of funding from the federal and provincial governments, with an additional $3M coming from the City of St. Thomas. Eight tiny homes have been built of a total of 40 to eventually be built on site. Managed by the local YWCA, the project will be home to 66 individuals in one, two and three-bedroom #supportinghousing units. The project is expected to be complete by the summer of 2026. Congratulations to Doug Tarry Homes for helping to spearhead the initiative along with Sanctuary Homes and the YWCA St Thomas-Elgin for this inspiring project! Collaboration is truly the key to success in the community. 🌲The first #masstimber branch for the Bank of Montreal (BMO) opened this Spring. Located in Kitchener, Ontario, this is the first BMO branch designed to meet requirements for #PassiveHouse and #ZeroCarbon certification. Element5 is proud to be the mass timber supplier on the project! 🏗 DETAILS Cross-laminated timber (#CLT) was used for the walls and roof, while the building is framed with a #Glulam post and beam structure with simple hanger connections for a tight fit on site. The branch also includes a drive-through ATM, showcasing the CLT inside and out. CLT walls were delivered to the site with vapor barriers pre-installed, allowing for a rapid install of semi-rigid envelope insulation. 👷🏼 Many thanks to other members of the project team: - Kearns Mancini Architects Inc. - Moses Structural Engineers Inc. - The Contract Framing Group Inc. - MTC Solutions Also thanks to ZeeDrone Aerial Solutions for the aerial videography.
