We recently broke ground on the Convertus York Biofuel Facility. Here’s how this project is driving innovation: 🚚 Reduced transportation emissions: Processing organic waste locally will reduce 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by minimizing long distance transportation. 🔌 Renewable energy production: Renewable natural gas (RNG) production at the facility, combined with heat recovery systems, will replace fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy. The facility is designed to generate enough RNGs each year to power approximately 5,000 homes! 🗑️ Landfill diversion: Continuing York’s landfill diversion efforts, this facility will help reduce up to 70,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Being part of this project helps us make significant leaps towards a more sustainable future in one of Canada’s fastest growing municipalities, York, Ontario. Together, with GHD and Convertus Group, we're driving innovation and excellence in design and construction, while contributing to a more sustainable approach to waste management. #BuildGreen

✨ Celebrating collective successes in Indigenous Relations (IR) at the 2024 Canadian Council for Indigenous Business’ IR Forum & PAIR Awards, where Bird was proud to be recognized as a Silver Partnership Accreditee. Our IR team had a wonderful opportunity to connect with other organizations committed to advancing economic reconciliation. A highlight of the event was our own Rebecca Kragnes, RSE, MBA, who shared her insights on a thought-provoking panel discussing Call to Action #92. The panel emphasized the importance of meaningful engagement and the vital role communities play in providing input that leads to positive economic impacts. It’s been a busy and exciting time for our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) team! Recently, our team was invited by Rob Ellis, Founder & President of MySafeWork, to meet with students and share the importance of workplace safety. Sydney Caza, HSE Administrator, and Matt Fraser, HSE Manager, spoke at Lambton College in Toronto about workplace safety and identifying safe, inclusive employers. Later that week, Matt joined industry leaders at Conestoga College in Ingersoll, Ontario to discuss work site safety and the importance of speaking up about unsafe conditions. We're grateful to be invited to impactful events that make a difference in workplace safety. It wouldn't be possible without Rob and MySafeWork, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing workplace injuries, fatalities, and harassment. MySafeWork aims to inspire companies to build strong safety cultures by educating and empowering teams. #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyCulture

I had the pleasure of touring the École Sage Creek project site last night with members of the Manitoba Women in Construction (MWC)! Big thanks to the team for hosting an insightful tour through an important project for our community. MWC is dedicated to supporting, educating, and mentoring women in Manitoba’s construction industry—a mission Bird Construction is proud to champion. Special shoutout to our Project Manager Jillian Schofield and our Superintendent Rob Grant for leading the tour and sharing their expertise. It’s inspiring to see so many talented women leading the execution of this project from not just our team but also from the lead design team at Number TEN Architectural Group! Great work everyone, I can't wait to see the doors open to students and teachers next year!🛠️ #WomenInConstruction #MWC #Ourbestbuildyet

Indigenous Veterans Day is observed in Canada on November 8th to honour the contributions of Indigenous people who served in the World Wars and the Korean War. First commemorated in Winnipeg in 1994, this day recognizes the courage and sacrifices of Indigenous veterans, who have served for over 200 years, from the War of 1812 to present-day missions. At Bird, we respect the legacy of Indigenous veterans and their vital role in shaping a safe, diverse, and inclusive Canada. Today, we stand with Indigenous communities to commemorate their sacrifices and reflect on their enduring legacy, which inspires our commitment to reconciliation and inclusivity. 📸 Indigenous Veterans Day Dinner in Beardy's & Okemasis Cree Nation #CanadaRemembers
