As communicators prepare for a challenging 2025, determining the best approach to reach your audience is critical. At our recent #EUInfluencer event, we explored trends shaping the EU conversation with a fantastic panel and insightful discussions, both online and offline. One key takeaway is the increasingly central role LinkedIn plays within the EU community. During the event, we asked participants which platform they preferred, and a large majority indicated LinkedIn as their go-to platform. This highlights the need to integrate LinkedIn as a core element of your communication strategy. However, LinkedIn does not replace Twitter X for breaking news and policy conversations. X still dominates in these areas, and our research confirms that MEPs are most active on X. Despite rising concerns about the platform and its owner, Theresa Fallon aptly described the "path dependency" that keeps users tied to X—leaving behind a well-established follower base is challenging. At this point, it’s unclear when or if a major shift will occur. That said, alternatives like Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads offer promise for those seeking a new space. But none have yet reached critical mass, and the fediverse—where you can post across multiple channels and respond from one account—hasn’t fully materialized. Change may still be on the horizon. Emerging platforms like Instagram and TikTok are growing in importance. The EUinfluencers in these spaces show that a new tone and format are essential for engaging younger audiences, who are rising through the ranks and will soon lead communication efforts across the EU. My key takeaway from the event? 1. You cannot depend on a single platform. 2. Change is accelerating, and communicators need to prepare for continued uncertainty. Be ready for sudden platform shifts (whether due to an X ban, a move to Threads, or other developments). 3. The collection of country profiles, based on the 2022 Survey on Digital Health in the WHO European Region, provides invaluable insights into this paradigm shift. 🔍 Analysing these profiles at the national level offers deep insights into how each country strategically navigates the digital health terrain. The media is one of the most powerful tools on the planet. It has the potential to shape narratives, build reputations, and influence entire industries. Yet, despite its immense power, most people don’t know how to wield it effectively. Why? Because they don’t truly understand this: It’s not just about being on media platforms; it’s about knowing how to use them strategically. The same media that can de-platform someone and erase their influence can also amplify their voice and make them a leader in their field Too many people believe that simply getting on the same media platforms as everyone else—whether that’s a magazine feature, a TV interview, or a podcast appearance—automatically grants them credibility. But that’s a misconception. True amplification isn’t about being “as seen on” some platform. That’s not what drives impact or builds a memorable personal brand. Slapping a few logos on a website or a social profile doesn’t make someone an authority. It’s not amplification, and it’s certainly not branding. Real amplification is about controlling the narrative, leveraging media to position yourself uniquely, and standing out in a way that resonates with your target audience. It’s about using media as a tool to create lasting influence—not just as a checkbox for superficial recognition. The difference between those who merely appear on media and those who dominate through it is understanding how to turn media exposure into a meaningful platform for growth, credibility, and authority.
