To attract and keep health professionals in country towns, we need to focus on housing, partner job opportunities, and community support. BlinkLab Limited Chairman, Brian Leedman, opens up about the new partnership between Blink Lab and Turning Point Autism Foundation on ausbiz. The collaboration is centered on a clinical study in children with autism in the United States. Armed with proprietary technology, Blink Lab is bringing disruption to the field by employing smartphone-based #AI technology that diagnoses #autism in children as young as 18 months. An impressive departure from the conventional diagnoses age bracket of five to six years, facilitated by a special reflex response test. The technology gaining momentum in the conversation is an offshoot from Princeton University in New Jersey. The innovative product is significantly revolutionising healthcare and yielding an impressive performance on the ASX listing since its debut barely a month ago. Brian shares their imminent plans to commence an FDA registration study in the second half of the current year, with the assistance of the Turning Point Autism Foundation, a reputable Illinois-based institute. Looming debates about Blink Lab's game-changing trials are concluded. The best-case scenario is to validate the precision of their disruptive technology, boasting an astounding sensitivity and specificity rate of 85 and 84 percent, respectively. As a PR professional, there’s no better feeling than waking up to see a story you pitched take pride of place in a national masthead like The Australian. Today’s edition features a brilliant piece by Penny Timms from their Health and Wellbeing team, spotlighting the amazing work of our Wings Public Relations client, Wesley Research Institute. The article highlights groundbreaking research into coeliac disease, a condition that affects 1.4% of the global population and currently has no proven treatments beyond a lifelong gluten-free diet. Wesley Research Institute led early-stage trials of Immunic Therapeutics' new drug, IMU-856, which is designed to promote gut renewal without suppressing the immune system - a completely novel approach. The study, led by Dr James Daveson and published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, showed promising early results, including improved nutrient absorption and reduced symptoms. While it’s still early days, the potential for this research to help millions of people is incredible. It’s been an absolute privilege to share this story with the nation and I’m so grateful to The Australian team, especially Natasha Robinson, Penny and wonderful photographer Lyndon Mechielsen for their interest. The Silent (and Unnecessary) Exit Today, I read a report from The Experience Advocacy Taskforce (EAT) and Advertising Industry Careers (AIC), highlighting a worrying, but unsurprising trend in Australia’s advertising and communications sector: a significant exodus of professionals over the age of 40. Shockingly, over 51% of these exits occur between the ages of 45-54. While many experienced professionals, like myself and Katrina Brangwin, have chosen to leave large agencies for other reasons, not everyone pushed out by ageism has the same opportunity to carve out a new path. This represents a deliberate loss of seasoned talent, reinforcing a bias that favours younger generations in the workplace and work that is informed by younger teams. We all know diversity is better for teams and better for the work. I posted about ageism a few months ago and was overwhelmed with responses from people sharing their stories and their dismay. Greg Graham of EAT warns that ageism is creating a silent talent drain that’s sapping the industry of invaluable experience. To stay competitive, and frankly relevant, the industry must prioritise the retention of seasoned professionals and eliminate bias.
