What a cracking few days! I was so lucky to get to share Wellteam.me’s mission with a room full of doctors, professors and allied health professionals from Australia and New Zealand. I was overwhelmed with the response. I kid you not, I was almost in tears. The Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine is full of amazing, passionate and 100% committed professionals aiming for the highest quality health care with minimal drug interventions. These are my people. I have had incredible conversations post presentation with doctors and practice owners keen to get involved. What struck me mid-presentation was the idea that doctors, practice staff and allied health professionals in a practice could all take on the worlds healthiest habits together… with their patients. Doctors and practice staff are feeling as burnt out as the rest of us… so let’s take back control together. Rather than pop another pill, let’s challenge each other to take on the world’s healthiest habits. Who knows, worst case scenario… drug companies and big food companies lose a few billion bucks. System working good practice sharing Post 8 This is a mini series of posts which I hope are interesting to my network… previous posts on my profile Last year I was commissioned to do a piece of work looking at the highest performing systems in managing UEC flow. Over the coming days I’ll share the findings - what do the highest performing systems in England have in common? There are real opportunities for all of us to have think about these findings and identify areas we may like to improve upon… Internal professional standards Successful systems have great clinical leaders who, rather than try to adopt somewhere else’s, will bring the wider team together (the whole MDT) and empower them to design their own. IPS are patient focussed, measurable and cultural upheld. Staff within successful systems are able to easily describe the values of their organisation, there is trust and support between services, and believe their professional standards to be a reflection of ‘doing the right thing’. As I continue my block of posts on Compassionate Care Conference organized by St Luke's Hospital - Singapore I once again want to remember how it was and share my thoughts with you. From the moment I stepped into the vibrant halls of the conference venue, I could feel the palpable energy of over 200 dedicated healthcare professionals and experts gathered with a shared purpose: to explore and expand the boundaries of compassionate care. It was truly a privilege to be a part of this gathering, surrounded by individuals committed to caring for those who care, day in and day out. 🔸Throughout the conference, we delved into many topics, each more crucial than the last. From my pre-conference workshop on Healing Conversations, where we explored the power of authentic dialogue in fostering healing and connection, to the post-conference workshop on Healing Your Team: Creating a Compassionate Care Organization, where we discussed practical strategies for cultivating a culture of compassion within healthcare teams, every session was infused with insight and passion. 🔸During my keynote address, titled Compassionate Communication Begins with Me, we explored the foundational role of self-compassion in nurturing empathetic communication with both patients and colleagues alike. It was a humbling experience to witness the collective dedication of attendees to embodying these principles in their daily practice. 🔸At the heart of it all, the overarching theme of creating healing communities resonated deeply with each participant. We discussed the profound impact of fostering environments where compassion, empathy, and understanding are not only encouraged but celebrated. It was a powerful reminder that, in the face of adversity and uncertainty, it is our shared humanity that sustains us and propels us forward. 🔹As you know from previous posts, my journey has not been the easiest, but one thing is for sure, I would do it again!
