Ongoing weekly mentoring of disadvantaged young people to work on keeping them in high school and into higher education.

This is a really great program which I am deeply passionate about. I believe we can help disadvantaged young people break the cycle through higher levels of education and providing support through someone to talk to.

Completing Smiling for Smiddy challenges has been a major personal highlight and a true sense of achievement. 2017 I signed up for the Bottle Mart Smiddy Challenge. I was part of a 50 deep peloton peddling more than 1,600ks from Townsville to Brisbane in eight days.
In June 2016 I rode Adelaide to Uluru with 60 other riders, 1,770ks of wind, rain, sun, road trains, remoteness and camaraderie. Undoubtedly an iconic ride for the entire Smiling for Smiddy peloton and support crew.

Why I took on this challenge? To raise much-needed funds for cancer research at Mater Foundation and to give back.
As part of the Smiddy Challenge peloton, I utilised my passion for cycling to raise funds and awareness to help fight this devastating disease.

But much like any #SmilingforSmiddy event, it’s a long, hard road to fight cancer. Every day in Queensland, around 70 people and their families are blindsided by a cancer diagnosis.

That’s almost three people who will hear the words “you have cancer” in the next hour.

Significant investment in life-saving cancer research is the only way we’re going to change these statistics.

You can help me raise funds for cancer research at Mater by making a secure online donation to our fundraising page.

"The man himself was our mate Adam. Last name, Smiddy. A talented triathlete and physiotherapist, we’re fighting the good fight against cancer in his name. You see, Smiddy isn’t here any more. He was cut down in his prime by an aggressive melanoma in 2006. He was just 26. After Adam's passing, his mate Mark Smoothy decided to honour his friend the best way he knew how—by saddling up for the 1600 km ride from Brisbane to Townsville that Adam had dreamed of completing. By the time Mark and friends Ron Steel and Oliver Bodak reached Home Hill near Townsville, the trio had raised $24,000 for cancer research. And Smiling for Smiddy was born. Chances are you’ve seen for yourself how devastating cancer can be. Our goal is to do everything in our power to put an end to the devastating effects of this disease. To date, our Smiling for Smiddy events have raised more than $5 million for cancer research and support at Mater."
