This #seasonofgiving we wanted to shout out our wonderful team members who have spent time fundraising and volunteering for a whole range of organisations in their communities this year. People like management support officer Tess, who has coordinated our team members to participate in a number of fundraising events – raising dollars for great events like the Walk 4 Brain Cancer for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer Council Australia. Volunteers and fundraisers are the heart of communities. We’re really proud of the efforts our people go to in making a difference in their communities. They help run local footy and softball clubs, they help keep people safe with their rural fire brigade or marine rescue service, they walk for miles on treadmills to raise funds for kids in hospice care for Very Special Kids and they help run the events that bring communities together to celebrate important community days like Diwali or Africa Day. We’ve been delighted to help all our volunteers and fundraisers in their efforts with a little extra financial support as part of our annual community program. A gold star for all our team members for their efforts to make their communities a better place this year… they might want to put it on top of their Christmas Tree? #seasonofgiving #volunteering #supportingourcommunities

Fantastic to see more than 1,000 children attend The Christmas Party Townsville event recently! Each year this special event sees children with disabilities and those living with complex needs take part in an action-packed day full of activities, rides, performances, food, and a visit from Santa. The Christmas Party gives these children the chance to gather and share the magic of the festive season in a safe and inclusive environment. We have been proud to sponsor this event for the past three years.

It was great to show staff from TAFE NSW around our Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub (WSHH) earlier this month! Our Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub is a cutting-edge facility that is demonstrating how hydrogen can play a leading role in emission reduction. Those in attendance had a specific interest in the future of energy, and in ensuring they have the information they need about emerging skill requirements to help their students be job-ready for the innovative labour market of the future. Broadly, we see renewable gases (such as hydrogen) as playing a key role in the energy system – and energy job market – of the future. Community spirit was shining bright in Tennant Creek last weekend. The 90th annual Tennant Creek Children’s Christmas Tree event took place on 7 December. We are a proud sponsor of this event which brings together community members and families to enjoy food, drinks, performances and of course a visit from Santa giving out presents to local children. Well done to all the volunteers and organisations involved in running another fantastic event!

Every morning from about 7:30am onwards, there’s a queue for coffee forming at our in-house cafe, Coffee on Cue, in our Collins Street office. Everyone knows Melburnians love their coffee! But beyond servicing their caffeine habit, drinking a daily flat white or latte or cappuccino – whether soy, skinny, almond or oat milk…or just ‘normal’ – helps our people make a difference. A percentage of proceeds is donated every month to not-for-profit organisations our team members help select. Coming into the holiday period, when we added it all together we were delighted that so far in 2024, we have provided almost $60,000 in total to a range of wonderful organisations. (We’re also maybe a *little* worried about how much coffee our team members drink!) We wanted to celebrate the fantastic organisations our people chose… The Smith Family, Cancer Council Australia, Fitted for Work, Koala Kids Foundation, RSPCA Australia, Clean Up Australia Ltd, KARI, Lighthouse Foundation and R U OK? While the café might be quiet over the holiday period, we hope that some of the money raised goes some way to supporting people at need in our communities at this time. We also hope Santa brings some chocolate-covered coffee beans or a new coffee plunger for our team members – we think they’re going to miss the coffee cart! #seasonofgiving #supportingourcommunities

🌱 Exciting times at our Malabar Biomethane Injection Plant! We recently welcomed representatives from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to discuss all things renewable gas. For many of our industrial customers, such as those reliant on high heat to operate, or for natural gas as a feedstock, renewable gas (such as biomethane) can help them to decarbonise their operations while continuing to produce many of the goods we use each day. Dive deeper into renewable gas at our website: https://lnkd.in/gK26xENQ #RenewableGas #Biomethane #Decarbonisation #Sustainability

This #seasongofgiving, we want to celebrate some of the amazing organisations we’ve supported this year – including those who work to make a difference for Indigenous people in the communities where we operate. For the fifth year we’re pleased to partner with Saltbush Social Enterprises, which, this year, helped more than 50 Indigenous people find work in the Northern Territory through their Foundation to Future initiative. In New South Wales, Barnardos Australia is supporting Indigenous children at their Yalmanbirra Learning Centre in Wellington, near Dubbo. We’re also very proud to have supported the Tennant Creek Women’s and Children’s Refuge for many years in their efforts to care for people experiencing family violence. Also in Tennant Creek, we continue to support the local council’s annual Christmas Tree program, which brings the joy of the season to many local Indigenous children. And, for the first time, in October this year we were delighted to celebrate fantastic athletes as a sponsor of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sports Awards. To all the amazing workers and volunteers, we hope you have a wonderful festive season!

🌍 Today as we celebrate International Day of People with Disability, we are reflecting on the importance of inclusivity in our workplaces. With around 20 percent of Australians identifying as having a disability, it’s crucial we raise awareness and acceptance. With this in mind, we are introducing new adjustment guidelines and processes for our Group, along with practical resources to help our people make their workplace events more inclusive. These guidelines are just one of the many ways we are focusing on building a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can belong. With an open heart and mind, we are committed to listening and learning from the experiences, traditions, stories, customs, and practices of Australia’s First Nations Peoples as we bring our projects to life. Through our engagement for Jemena Electricity Network’s Draft Proposal, First Nations community members told us they valued Indigenous artwork being embedded in meaningful ways across our organisation. In response to this, we partnered with Aboriginal artist Simone Thomson, to tell the story of electricity distribution in Victoria and how we work in partnership with communities for our Draft Proposal. We remain committed to working with First Peoples in co-creating shared futures, and building energy infrastructure, maintenance, and services for new and existing communities. Jemena Electricity Networks is located on both Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong land. Simone created the artwork titled Wurru Wurru Biik Djirringu – Sky Country of Lightning and is a Melbourne based Aboriginal artist and Traditional Owner of Victoria’s Woi-Wurrung Wurundjeri and Yorta-Yorta language groups through her mother. “I produced an artwork that represents the story of Jemena on the lands in which they service. In the artwork you will see the creator spirit for the Kulin nations, which is Bunjil the eagle so it’s just sort of weaving that story and narrative into Jemena’s story. The lightning definitely is a representation of power. The houses of the clients that Jemena’s services are seen in the arc shapes mounds which are along the river and along with the gathering circle which is quite a big feature of the artwork which represents Jemena’s community, but also the main organisation here in Wurundjeri country in which they operate and that’s an integral part of the story.” Simone said. Simone draws inspiration for her art from the abundant textures and colours of this beautiful land, along with the ancestral bonds she has to the Birrarung (Yarra River) and Dhungala (the Murray River). We would like to thank Simone for telling the story of our electricity network through her art and for the contribution to Jemena Electricity Networks.
