🌱 Exciting times at our Malabar Biomethane Injection Plant! We recently welcomed representatives from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to discuss all things renewable gas. For many of our industrial customers, such as those reliant on high heat to operate, or for natural gas as a feedstock, renewable gas (such as biomethane) can help them to decarbonise their operations while continuing to produce many of the goods we use each day. Dive deeper into renewable gas at our website: https://lnkd.in/gK26xENQ #RenewableGas #Biomethane #Decarbonisation #Sustainability

This week, staff from NSW Government’s Hydrogen and Clean Energy team and the National GreenPower Accreditation Program team visited Jemena's Malabar Biomethane Injection Plant. The plant is taking biogas from Sydney Water’s Malabar Wastewater Treatment Plant and upgrading it to biomethane for injection into the gas network to decarbonise fossil gas use. Since commissioning in 2023, over 80 terajoules of accredited GreenPower renewable biomethane has been injected, abating over 5,000 tCO2-e. This biomethane is proving how renewable gas will play a vital role in reducing emissions and promoting a sustainable clean energy future, particularly for NSW’s hard-to-abate industrial and commercial sectors. Did you know we're responsible for 36% of reticulated gas connections in Aotearoa? As we look to the future, we’re investigating bringing renewable natural gas (biomethane) to our gas network. Renewable natural gas is made from decomposing organic material like food scraps which creates biogas and has many benefits: ✅It can be used with your current household appliances ✅It can be delivered using our current gas network ✅It doesn't produce any additional emissions New Zealand already produces enough biogas to supply all customers on our footprint – we just need to tap into it. If you are an installer of #greenheat systems like #biomassboilers, you know the shock that has been dealt to our industry, our businesses, and our customers. Baffling policy decisions, opportunist installers and misguided attacks on our renewable credentials have put biomass back - precisely when it needs to be at the forefront of our national renewable strategy. That's why we need to do two things to move the dial: 1️⃣ Work with the REA and Wood Heat Forum to extend the voice of the renewable heat sector 2️⃣ To lead by example - using better technology, leading training, and supporting one another. We can achieve greater things together. If you want to have access to market-leading renewable heat technology and training, learn about our Certified Partner Network here: https://lnkd.in/dugefgW #partners #renewableheat

DID YOU KNOW? Bioenergy is Europe’s most important renewable energy source, and the only renewable source capable of providing heating and cooling, electricity, and transport fuel. GET THE FACTS: ➡️ Bioenergy represents 57% of the renewable energy consumed in the EU. ➡️ 85% of all renewable heating in Europe comes from biomass. ➡️ Bioenergy is currently heating 66 million European households. Europe needs bioenergy to decarbonize the atmosphere and fight climate change. Wood pellets are a sustainable and budget-friendly biofuel that can heat our homes efficiently while reducing our environmental footprint. 🌍 Would you like to know more about wood pellets and their benefits? Biomethane, also known as renewable natural gas (RNG), plays an important role in the carbon transition. It offers the potential for negative greenhouse gas emissions and aligns with circular economy principles. With high energy content, it can integrate seamlessly into existing natural gas infrastructures and even replace diesel in high-usage applications, including in remote areas. So, why aren’t we utilizing this more extensively? #RNG #methane #biomethane #netzero #brazil #carbontransition

🚨 Publication Spotlight: Upgrading biogas quality to renewable natural gas (RNG) standards for natural gas pipeline injection has increased market value by generating commodity gas, increasing renewable environmental attribute sales, and are excellent complements to water reclamation portfolios of renewable products while providing non-rate-based sources of revenue. This latest Fact Sheet developed by Water Environment Federation's Residuals and Biosolids Community, Bioenergy Technology Focus Group on Upgrading Biogas to RNG is targeted for WRRF utility managers and consultants providing a technical review of RNG pipeline requirements, gas utility coordination, pre-treatment needs, and gas purification technologies. The European Commission has just presented its #StateOfTheEnergyUnion, with some good news about renewable energy. ⬆️In the first half of 2024, 50% of the EU's electricity was generated from renewable sources. Along with the European Biogas Association, we welcome the growing emphasis on biomethane through #REPowerEU for enhancing energy security, and we are proud to be developing biomethane plants to continue the decarbonisation of the EU's energy supply. Earlier this this year, we inaugurated the first biomethane plant in Spain with ammonia stripping in Lleida, turning manure into renewable natural gas and reducing the need for carbon-intensive mineral fertilisers on the farm, and we have big plans to do more! #biomethane #decarbonisation #RenewableNatureGas

🌱 Carbon Reporting with Renewable Gas 🌱 Renewable gas certificates make it easier for businesses to report carbon reductions transparently. These certificates provide clear, verifiable tracking of renewable gas use, helping organizations reflect their environmental impact accurately. With evolving guidelines, frameworks like the GHG Protocol and SBTi are developing clear rules for using RGCs in climate targets and GHG reporting. Until then, companies can consult auditors and follow local regulations for transparent reporting. 🌿⚡️ Some of you asked: *"How did we power an electric car with Sargassum seaweed?"* Well, here’s the scoop: we took Sargassum seaweed and wastewater from rum distilleries to create biomethane (basically natural gas). We stored that biomethane in a propane tank and used it to fuel a dual-fuel generator, which slow-charged our EV. Pretty cool, right? 🌱🔋 But that’s not all! We also showed off Kirstin's upgraded Suzuki Jimny, which is set to run on our renewable natural gas (RNG) during the 4-car pilot – making the switch from petrol to renewable energy. 🚗✨ Big things are coming for clean, sustainable transport! Stay tuned! #Sargassum #Biogas #Rum #SustainableEnergy #EVCharging #GreenTech #CleanDriving #InnovationInAction
