Big news - the NSW Government has announced a new plan to unlock the full potential of Tech Central Sydney, supporting the next wave of innovation and creative industries. A fresh vision for Tech Central will establish the district as a leading place to live and work, and will play a critical role as a future driver of NSW Government key priorities including housing, healthcare, night-time economy, visitor economy, and world-class transport infrastructure. The NSW Government is committed to the success of Tech Central and seeing it flourish as a melting pot for groundbreaking innovation, research, and lifestyle. The new measures announced include: ✅ In partnership with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and Transport for NSW, Investment NSW will help develop a Tech Central strategy to empower the innovation ecosystem. This will ensure the district is a leading place to live, work and play—all key ingredients in continuing to attract and retain leading innovative businesses. ✅ In late 2025, the Sydney Startup Hub will transition to the heart of Tech Central, bringing together startups, entrepreneurs, research institutes, and universities—all in one place to collaborate and grow. ✅ Specialist support from Investment NSW to drive investment and activity at Tech Central to attract investment and talent into Tech Central, facilitating better coordination between startups, research institutes, and universities. The NSW Innovation and Productivity Council wrapped up 2024 with its final meeting at the University of Sydney’s Knowledge Hub, co-hosted by Prof Julie Cairney. Special guests included Prof Rae Cooper, Ms Rupal Ismin, Mr Tim Payne, Dr Peter Turner, Prof Artem Prokhorov, Ms Natasha Rawlings, and Prof Steven Maguire. The meeting highlighted key insights from the Council’s international study on scaling innovation, focusing on the challenges of turning ideas into real-world impact. Based on 200+ case studies, the study offers policy solutions for successful scaling. Stay tuned for the full publication in 2025!
