In case this has gone unnoticed; The Secretary of the Department of Home Affairs has issued three mandatory Directions under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) to government entities to manage cyber security risks to the Australian Government. The Australian Signals Directorate's Annual Cyber Threat Report is out. Lots to digest, many thoughts to come, here's my highlights reel: The costs of dealing with a Cyber incident are roughly the same for small, medium and large enterprises. It doesn't matter how big or small you are! One major call out here is the significant boost Cyber Insurance will give you if something happens. Insurance is a worthwhile investment. Cyber isn't set and forget. It's also about partnerships and collaboration. Get your MSP onboard with your Cyber journey and ensure you continuously improve your capabilities. Email remains the main point of entry to vulnerable systems. Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Not-for-Profit (NFP) sectors face an impossible challenge of increasing cyber threats and reducing budgets. It’s a delicate dance to ensure cyber resilience when the resources, both human and financial, are scarce. Directors of the Boards are accountable for cyber risk and therefore need to ensure sufficient resources are allocated, instead of just assuming that CIOs will take care of it. Independent assurance of your cyber posture is essential.
