Though the Department isn’t quite yet six months old, we’ve still managed to achieve some big things in 2024. From a celebrated run at SXSW Sydney through to the launch of four major strategies across 24-Hour Economy NSW, Screen NSW, Office of Sport and Sound NSW, our young portfolio has hit the ground running. And we’re only just getting started – stay tuned for an even bigger 2025! #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #NSWGovernment Photo courtesy of Destination NSW

School's almost out and we're putting fun into session! 🕶️ ☀️ Our teams across the portfolio have teamed up on a campaign that highlights the breadth of activities available across Sydney and NSW over the summer school holidays. Destination NSW worked with Office of Sport and our cultural institutions (Art Gallery NSW, Australian Museum, Museums of History NSW, Powerhouse, State Library of New South Wales, Sydney Opera House) to pull together an extensive list of experiences guaranteed to keep kids busy and entertained over the coming weeks. A big congratulations to our Sound NSW team on the launch of the first-ever 10-year NSW Contemporary Music Strategy last night! A bold plan aimed at supercharging the NSW music industry over the next decade, the strategy was built on collaboration and focuses on upskilling talent, improving conditions, and championing local sounds on the global stage. Its strategic priorities are based on three main pillars: 🟢 Building a better, more viable music industry 🟢 Growing audiences for NSW music 🟢 Strengthening our communities with music Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gDJnNfav #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #SoundNSW #NSWMusic -- Photos courtesy of Karan Bawa and Jess Gleeson.

As we say hello to December (and summertime!), we bid farewell to what was yet another busy month across DCITHS. November brought the launch of Office of Sport's Play Her Way sports strategy, saw us snag three 2024 NSW Premier's Awards across the portfolio and brought Hospitality and Racing's final regional Regulatory Roadshow of the year to Dubbo. Here are some other top headlines from the month courtesy of our teams at Powerhouse, NSW Institute of Sport, State Library of New South Wales, Destination NSW and Australian Museum. There's certainly never a dull moment around here! 😊 #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #NSWGovernment

The weather's heating up and so is festival season!☀️🔥 It was great to see representation across Destination NSW, 24-Hour Economy NSW, Hospitality and Racing and Sound NSW at last week's cross-government and industry Music Festival Roundtable. With its latest meeting held near this year's Harbourlife festival site in the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, the purpose of the Roundtable, co-chaired by Liquor & Gaming NSW and the Australian Festival Association, is to give government agencies and industry stakeholders the opportunity to strengthen relationships, share information, address members’ priorities, and tackle emerging issues impacting music festivals in NSW. With our portfolio working together to deliver initiatives such as the Contemporary Music Festival Viability Fund and the NSW Government's Vibrancy Reforms, we're committed to help grow and support the live music ecosystem in NSW. #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #LiveMusic #MusicIndustry PICTURED (left to right): Tarek Barakat, Deputy Secretary Hospitality and Racing; Emily Collins, Head of Sound NSW; Michael Rodrigues, 24-Hour Economy Commissioner.

It's time to ride the next wave of women's sport in NSW! 🌊 This week our Office of Sport team launched Play Her Way, a four-year sport strategy that will support the next generation of young females on their journey to the top of sport and also ensure more women and girls can participate in fun, safe and inclusive sporting environments. Key themes of the strategy include participation, leadership, culture, partnerships and investment with a particular focus on addressing the low rates of participation among adolescent girls. The strategy was launched at URBNSURF Sydney Olympic Park where a group of female athletes took on a new sporting challenge – learning how to ride the perfect wave at the Office of Sport supported venue. After a busy year of regional visits, our Hospitality and Racing teams hosted their final roadshow of 2024 in Dubbo this week, with 24-Hour Economy NSW also on hand to speak to the government’s Vibrancy Reforms. Hospitality and Racing launched the first Regulatory Roadshow back in May 2023 to provide industry members with the opportunity to network with their peers, discuss issues, and learn about planned activities and focus areas. There have since been 10 roadshows hosted across NSW, attended by hundreds of local business owners and stakeholders who’ve met with H&R’s senior executive to share knowledge and explore options for a safe and vibrant hospitality industry. The team is fuelling up for more industry collaboration and connection opportunities in 2025, with more regional visits in the pipeline. October was a whirlwind in which we celebrated the NSW House at SXSW Sydney, cheered on our favourite team during the NRL Grand Final and focused on safe gambling behaviour throughout GambleAware Week. In what was another incredibly busy period of output for the portfolio, we're looking back at some of the other headlines that made up a "Chock-tober" month for our teams across 24-Hour Economy NSW, Art Gallery NSW, State Library of New South Wales, Destination NSW, Sydney Opera House, Australian Museum and Create NSW. As you can see, we had a few things going on... 🤩 #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #NSWGovernment

"Excellence is not given... it has to be earned." These wise words, spoken by Olympic gold medal winner Noemie Fox at our inaugural Department staff awards yesterday, were fitting considering the incredible work we were celebrating across our diverse portfolio. The afternoon saw our teams join together to acknowledge the various ways that our finalists and overall winners across Art Gallery NSW, Australian Museum, Create NSW, Destination NSW, Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission, Hospitality & Racing, NSW Institute of Sport, Office of Sport, 24-Hour Economy NSW, Powerhouse, State Library of New South Wales and Venues NSW have provided customer-centric programs and initiatives to support NSW's residents and communities. Special thanks to special guest Noemie for joining us and sharing her inspiring Olympic journey and kudos again to all our staff for their hard work and contributions in helping put arts, culture and sport at the heart of NSW. #DCITHS #CultureAtTheHeart #NSWGovernment
