Good News! Today the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released groundbreaking estimates that 4.5% of Australians over 16 years are LGBTI+. The experimental estimates - the first of their kind in Australia - combined data from nearly 45,000 people who responded to one of four recent ABS health surveys. The results? Roughly 3.6% of Aussies are LGB+ and nearly 1% of Australians are trans and gender diverse. Meanwhile 0.3% of Australians report they know they were born with variations of sex characteristics. In total, estimates show that more than 900,000 Australians are LGBTI+. While these estimates are only experimental they confirm what we already know - Australia is home to thriving LGBTIQ+ communities. This year we secured commitments from the Federal Government to count sexual orientation and gender identity, with more work ahead to include intersex people. Now we're one step closer to being seen as the significant population group that we are.

This year, our Founder and CEO won the NSW PIA Outstanding Woman in Planning Award. You can read an article about her journey as a woman in business and planning, and how we can plan for cities that plan for women in this month's PIA NSW New Planner. At last week's PIA QLD Awards for Planning Excellence 2024, we received a Commendation in the Community Wellbeing and Diversity category for our work with Cairns Regional Council and TPG Architects on the White Rock Community and Multicultural Centre. This project took an evidence based and innovative approach to for the future community facility that is planned for delivery in 2025-26. We worked with Council, service providers, local First Peoples and representatives of Cairns multicultural community to develop the governance model and concept design for this needed community hub. The result is a facility which will be built and operated to foster cultural sharing, learning and celebration, embrace Cairns’ tropical climate and importantly bring together different groups and services to provide a focal point for community life. Cred are really proud to have helped to develop the new resources for the Great Public Spaces Toolkit, launched by TfNSW last week. The resources, developed in partnership with TfNSW, councils and community provide practical support for city makers to ensure women, girls and gender diverse people feel safe and welcome in our public places and spaces. The new resources include a guide on 'shaping places together: ideas for co-designing places', a collection of best practice case studies, a community survey tool and an update to the evaluation tool for public space and public life. You can access the resources here. Congratulations to the TfNSW Safer Cities team! Transport for NSW
🤸♀️ Big news!! A few months ago my amazing team at Transport for NSW launched five new draft resources for the Great Places Toolkit for public exhibition to celebrate International Women's Day 👯♀️ and last Friday, in celebration of International Day of the Girl Child, we have launched the FINAL versions of the resources! 🤘 We set out to develop these tools and resources as part of the Safer Cities program from the very beginning! It has been such a privilege to learn from our program partners and collaborators from around the world, and of course to hear directly from women, girls and gender diverse people on what would help them to feel safer as they journey through cities and towns in NSW. My only hope is that these tools and resources reflect their voices, experiences and aspirations for new ways of creating places that work for all. 🌱💃 The five new resources include two guides, a collection of best practice case studies, a new Community Survey Tool and an update to the Evaluation Tool for Public Space and Public Life (last two available in three languages and digital and print formats - ready for you to take directly to your next project!). Check them out here, as well as a summary of what has changed since their launch in draft: https://lnkd.in/gBThCCtJ 💁♀️ If previews are your thing, I have a handy GIF for you! 🎥 #safercitiesprogram #women #transport

Our recent Creducation webinar explored the significance of social assets in creating social capital and their essential role in building community and disaster resilience. Our experts shared their significant experience in planning for social assets, engaging with communities on what they need, and collaborating with communities to design and deliver socially inclusive and multi-functional community buildings that build community. Thank you to Ashley Dunn and Lee Hillam from DunnHillam Architecture + Urban Design for joining us and sharing your industry leading case studies. Some takeaways: - Social assets are essential assets for our disaster resilience - Funding and operation of social assets are the responsibility of many from community groups/services, to all tiers of government, and the private sector, - Social assets are best when co-designed with impacted communities - Community buildings can be designed to meet multiple needs from baking scones in the library, to playful access ramps. If you weren’t able to make it, you can watch the recording here: https://lnkd.in/gE-F3-zn Reach out at [email protected] (or here) if you would like to know more, or if you'd like to go on our Creducation maillist. Stay tuned for the next webinar in our Creducation series. #socialassets #socialcapital #communityresilience

Congratulations City of Moreton Bay on achieving this Australian first, the adoption of a dedicated Changing Places Network Plan to strategically plan for and provide changing places facilities across the city. Changing places facilities are specially designed toilets used by people with high support needs. Access to these facilities supports them (and their families, friends and support workers) to participate in all elements of community life. Cred Consulting is proud to have supported Council with the development of this plan. We loved working with Council's passionate team to undertake engagement with people with lived experience, comprehensive research and collaboration across Council. The plan identifies priority locations for new facilities, as well as tools and processes to increase awareness, partnerships and advocacy. It is an ambitious plan which will help to ensure that Moreton Bay is a truely inclusive and accessible city. Julia Miller-Randle Lara Ottignon Simone Roberts Andrew Monaghan Leila Collins
More Changing Places facilities means better engagement in local communities for people with high support needs and their carers. We're proud to officially adopt a dedicated Changing Places Network Plan - the first of it's kind by a local government in Australia. 👏 On our journey to become most accessible city in South East Queensland, this plan will guide the delivery of more Changing Places Facilities across the City, making it a more inclusive place to live, work and play.
