Last night, Australian Grape & Wine joined forces with Seafood Industry Australia at the joint Parliamentary Friends of Viticulture and Parliamentary Friends of the Australian Seafood Industry event at Parliament House in Canberra. This special gathering highlighted the strength of collaboration and the importance of supporting Australia's primary industries. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sam Birrell MP and Meryl Swanson MP, co-chairs of the Parliamentary Friends of Viticulture, for their unwavering support and leadership. The event brought together parliamentarians from across the political spectrum to acknowledge the One Grape and Wine Sector Plan and the proactive steps our sector is taking to reset the path to profitability and prosperity. A special thank you to Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, The Hon Julie Collins MP and Minister for Trade, Senator Don Farrell, for their dedication to the grape and wine sector and for joining us last night. Your ongoing commitment to supporting our industry is deeply appreciated. Collaboration and advocacy are key to ensuring a thriving future for Australia's grape growers and winemakers. Australian Grape & Wine was proud to join the Finlaysons Wine Roadshow 32 again this year. As a membership-based organisation, connecting directly with winemakers, grape growers, and regional associations across Australia is central to what we do. This year, the roadshow took us to 10 wine regions, including the Hunter Valley, Tasmania, Yarra Valley, Rutherglen, Canberra, Coonawarra, Riverland, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and Margaret River. The theme, “Who is your next consumer, and how do you find them?”, sparked engaging conversations and raised important issues for our sector. Together, we explored wine’s social license to operate, examined potential legal challenges, and identified key opportunities to help Australian winemakers remain competitive in a dynamic market. A special thanks to Ali Laslett for representing Australian Grape & Wine with such professionalism and delivering an engaging presentation that resonated with audiences across all regions. We also extend our gratitude to the regional associations for welcoming the Finlaysons team and supporting this important initiative, as well as to our Australian Grape & Wine members who continue to champion the roadshow each year. Finally, thanks to Will Taylor and Lettie Thwaites for their leadership and facilitation, and to Ned Hewitson and Peter McAtamney for sharing their invaluable insights. The conversations we’ve had will undoubtedly inform ongoing advocacy and initiatives to support Australia’s grape and wine sector. On Thursday 14 November, Australian Grape & Wine hosted our Board, Membership and Advisory Committees, together with State and Regional Associations, and Wine Australia, at our inaugural Policy Forum. The overarching objective of the Policy Forum was to ensure that there is effective alignment and task allocation between the regional and state bodies, the national industry associations, and the Australian Grape & Wine advisory committees around delivery of the One Grape and Wine Sector Plan (OSP). The number one outcome from the session was to agree priority actions that are not currently being addressed explicitly by Wine Australia or Australian Grape & Wine, and to ensure that there is a clear plan to address those actions. With so much incredible talent, experience and varying perspectives in the room, the conversations were not only robust, but culminated in a list of actions for the whole of the sector to achieve the Immediate Priorities set out in the OSP. We thank all participants for their time and efforts in contributing to the Policy Forum. We acknowledge that you give your time to AGW voluntarily, and we appreciate your dedication to the sector and your desire to get us back on track to prosperity and profitability for all.
