  • The Riverland was delighted to welcome representatives from The South Australian Department for Trade and Investment (rebranded to Dept of State Development from 1 July) in India this week! The goal was for our emerging partners to experience the very best of what the Riverland has to offer and gain insight into our trade potential, from commercial to boutique wineries. They toured wineries, experienced working vineyards and learnt about emerging varieties in a wine tasting on the stunning banks of the Murray River. With the rise in tourism and emerging affluence, there is genuine enthusiasm for Riverland wine in this important emerging market. We heard that despite a highly competitive wine sector, South Australian exporters have promising long term opportunities in India.

  • Last week, Riverland Wine had the privilege of supporting ten dedicated wine producers who proudly recognize Riverland GI at exciting events in Hong Kong and China, celebrating the vibrant spirit of Australian wine. Now in its third year, the Riverland Wine Development Program is a cornerstone of the ambitious Riverland Runs Free campaign, aiming to redefine the Riverland wine region for a global audience and ensure its long-term sustainability and growth. The festivities kicked off in the grand ballroom of The St. Regis Hong Kong with the Taste of South Australia Wine Reception, hosted by the Minister for Trade and Investment Joe Szakacs. Four hundred attendees had the pleasure of savoring an array of exquisite South Australian wine styles, including distinctive Riverland brands. Guests mingled with South Australian wineries at #VinexpoAsia and members of the South Australian Wine Ambassadors Club Hong Kong Chapter, fostering connections and sharing their passion for wine. Over the three days of Vinexpo Asia, the trade show buzzed with near pre-pandemic enthusiasm. The Riverland Wine stand, nestled in the Australian wine pavilion, showcased a remarkable diversity of wines from 63 exhibitors across 31 regions, reflecting the dynamic and energetic Australian wine scene. Two masterclasses, expertly presented by Riverland Wine Independent Chair Dr. Darren Oemcke and renowned Hong Kong-based wine educator Corrine Mui, captivated attendees with insights into Australia's most innovative wine region. Stretching between the majestic Murray River and the vast Great Australian Outback, the Riverland is known for its unconventional and exciting wine styles. Participants were intrigued by the region's bold varietals and blends, as well as the resilience and creativity of its winemakers. A highlight of the week was the Welcome and Networking Reception at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, hosted by Austrade and Wine Australia, with the Australian Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Scott Dewar, in attendance. This event offered exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their wines to trade guests from Mainland China and Southeast Asia, continuing the vibrant conversations started during the day. The week concluded on a high note in Shenzhen, China, where the Department of Trade and Industry and Samuel Hua from Vinolution hosted a day of immersive trade events. Eighteen South Australian wineries and industry bodies participated in the Taste of South Australia Shenzhen trade tasting at the Park Hyatt Shenzhen, reconnecting with Chinese wine retailers and celebrating the warmth and enthusiasm for South Australia's re-entry into the Chinese wine market. All made possible through the generous support and funding from the South Australian Wine Industry Development Program, Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants, and the South Australian Government's China Re-Engagement Support Package.
