My little story in Supply Chain and Logistics...... So, about this period 5 years ago, my journey in Supply Chain and logistics kicked off. As a fresh graduate then, with little experience in Asset Management and Finance, I was eager to see what Professional Warehousing and Logistics Operations looked like. Suddenly, that Monday morning, I was in this Multinational firm with the Hiring Manager who was to be My Boss if I succeeded. I thought I was going to be bomboarded with questions, I got materials to read, but never knew where to start as there were many things to go through within a short time. The more I tried to comprehend, the more disturbed I became. Fast forward to 20 minutes later, all I got was the best question for me that year - "When do you think you can resume". I was wondering, He didn't ask me a single question about Supply chain and Logistics. He only engaged me in conversations and I almost forgot I was in an interview, this Man was friendly and immediately I wished He would be my Boss. He asked me simple questions about myself, asked about my little experience through college and just few questions in Microsoft Excel. That was all He wanted to hear. In conclusion, I worked with this Excellent Supply Chain professional for almost 3 years, He didn't just turn out to be my Boss, He groomed me, and to a Big Friend, Mentor, My Leader and someone I would always want to work with. I am making Him a proud Mentor up till today. I use today to celebrate every Leader and manager that sincerely gives young graduates opportunities. Some times, the young ones are so passionate about being part of organizational successes and achievements. The Outlets Coordinator is responsible for assisting walk-in customers, promoting and selling products, and managing the associated administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations within the retail outlet. 1. It’s up to YOU to lead It all begins in your head. Above all, you have to be aware, believe and act like a leader. It certainly helps if you’re an open-minded personality committed to continuously developing your management skills. In my experience it happens quite often, especially to “new” managers promoted within company that they slowly and even unknowingly “slip” back from the role of manager to the role of team member while keeping all the new responsibilities. 2. Set rules for routine tasks There are quite a few tasks which have to be done daily and often nobody really wants to do them. But don’t mix their routine nature with its importance. If not managed correctly clients and superiors will quickly notice it. Therefore, it’s important to quickly set clear rules and responsibilities and not to lose precious time or even risk quality and security issues later. 3. Manage your team It all begins with regular daily “face-to-face” communication. You may say “of course, we all know that”, but I’ve seen too many managers fail at this point over and over again. Remember, it’s not just about communication. It’s even more about daily and “face-to-face” approach. Don’t forget to keep meetings short, to ask questions and listen. This way your team will start the day not only better informed but also ready and action oriented from first client entering the outlet. Don’t interfere in their interpersonal relations but don’t avoid conflict management. 4. Delegate and control Your time is limited, therefore don’t forget to delegate. It’s not only yours but your team duty to follow and understand all the instructions and its changes. Why not letting your team members present changes on morning’s meeting and watch them how they excel. It’s your job to keep them out of “comfort zone” and help them develop. 5. Motivate It may be considered intangible or “soft” but results can quickly and easily be seen. Everybody has experienced environments of an unmotivated team and would certainly not decide to buy there or even worse – have to work there. Real challenge presents the fact that you’re not dealing with static but dynamic category, meaning you have to work daily to keep your team motivated. Act transparent and keep the positive attitude. Although we all quickly notice things not being as they should, you should consistently emphasize good practices and your team member’s strengths. If people are happy they are generally more productive. Give praise in front of the group and communicate success to higher level of management regularly. Never take credit for your team member’s achievements.

Do you take time to visit the sites and check whether the specifications are being followed? Do you take time to appreciate what the contract is doing and going through? Navigating Unemployment in Zimbabwe: A Journey of Introspection and Resilience Unemployment is never an easy chapter, especially in a challenging economic landscape like Zimbabwe’s. After spending over 8 years in procurement, I find myself at a crossroads, grappling with questions about my career path and reflecting deeply on where I want to go from here. Leaving a toxic workplace has been both liberating and unsettling. It’s liberating to shed the weight of an unhealthy environment but unsettling to face the uncertainty that comes with searching for new opportunities. Toxicity in the workplace often chips away at your confidence, leaving scars that take time to heal. It forces you to ask tough questions: Am I still passionate about this field? Do I want to start over in another industry? What does fulfillment look like for me now? In Zimbabwe, where economic conditions are tough and job opportunities limited, the struggle to find employment is amplified. It’s not just about submitting CVs; it’s about standing out in a competitive market, networking tirelessly, and staying motivated in the face of rejection or silence. At the same time, it’s an opportunity to reevaluate. For me, this period of introspection has been revealing. I’ve come to realize that it’s not just about finding any job but finding a workplace that aligns with my values and fosters growth. While financial stability is crucial, so is my mental health and sense of purpose. To anyone navigating a similar journey: • Take time to reflect: It’s okay to pause and reconsider your path.
