GIVING TUESDAY Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. THE HEART OF RESCUE 
As the year draws to a close, we reflect on each rescue we have provided with shelter, love, food, veterinary care, and nursing. Since January 2024, we have taken 66 cats and kittens into our care, of which we sadly lost six precious lives. We also mourned the loss of two of our long-residing shelter rescues. Ask anyone involved in rescue work which is the toughest month of the year, and they will unanimously agree it is December. More pets are abandoned in December than in any other month. Other challenges faced by rescue organisations and independent rescuers include gaining access to business properties, which close during December, to feed feral colonies. Many vets who support rescues also close over Christmas and New Year, making it harder to take a sick feral or rescue animal to a vet who offers rescue rates. For those not involved in rescue work, Christmas and New Year is a time for family to come together from near and far to share cherished memories and create new ones. It’s a time for holidays at the seaside, in a game reserve, or on a spoiling vacation abroad. For us in rescue, however, it is a time to remain on high alert, ready for the phone call from a feral feeder or security guard reporting yet another litter of kittens abandoned at one of our feeding stations. It is the time of year when, heartbreakingly, we often have no capacity to help the public by taking in even a single kitten or cat. With sincere hearts, we thank each rescue organisation and independent rescuer for your dedication and commitment to making a difference to every life you save and every mouth you feed, come rain, sunshine, or the silly season. Thank you for persevering through tears and broken hearts when you thought you lacked the strength to continue. Thank you for being the Heart of Rescue. Together, we always achieve more. ADOPT JUNEAU AND SELDOVIA These sweethearts have been with their foster mom, Raven, since January this year, and are still in need of their forever homes. We would hate them to be reintroduced to shelter after having a home environment with love and pampering. They have been well loved with cuddles and are well socialized. At just under a year old they would make a loving and calm addition to any cat family as a pair or individually. Seldovia the stunning tuxedo cat is calm and gentle yet affectionate and loving. CAT FOOD DRIVE As we run up to the holiday season, we’re hosting a Cat Food Drive to ensure every cat in our care has a meal. Along with over 100 cats and kittens at shelter, we have feral cat colonies that we look after to make sure they get the nutrition they need. Please help us make sure our cupboards are full for the season and into next year. You can help by: * Dropping off cat food donations at our shelter by December 16 * Ordering online and having it delivered directly to us! * We also have a donation box at Family Pet Centre Fourways & Centurion Every can or bag helps, and your kindness will make a huge difference for the cats who rely on us.
