1. The School Boy 2. A Red, Red Rose

By William Blake By Robert Burns

I love to rise in a summer morn, O my Luve is like a red, red rose

When the birds sing on every tree; That’s newly sprung in June;
The distant huntsman winds his horn, O my Luve is like the melody
And the skylark sings with me: That’s sweetly played in tune.
O what sweet company! So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
But to go to school in a summer morn, And I will luve thee still, my dear,
O it drives all joy away! Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Under a cruel eye outworn, Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
The little ones spend the day. And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
In sighing and dismay. I will love thee still, my dear,
Ah then at times I drooping sit, While the sands o’ life shall run.
And spend many an anxious hour; And fare thee weel, my only luve!
Nor in my book can I take delight, And fare thee weel awhile!
Nor sit in learning’s bower, And I will come again, my luve,
Worn through with the dreary shower. Though it were ten thousand miles.

3. The Lake Isle of Innisfree 4. Knowledge

By William Butler Yeats By Eleanor Farjeon

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, Your mind is a meadow

And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; To plant for your needs;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, You are the farmer,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade. With knowledge for seeds.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes Don’t leave your meadow
dropping slow, Unplanted and bare
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the Sow it with knowledge
cricket sings; And tend it with care
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings. Who’d be a know-nothing
When he might grow
I will arise and go now, for always night and day The seed of the knowledge
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; Of stars and of snow;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core. The science of numbers,
The stories of time,
The magic of music,
The secrets of rhyme?

Don’t be a know-nothing!
Plant in the spring,
And see what a harvest
The summer will bring.
