5. 4 to 20mA Span Adjustment

The 4 to 20 mA endpoint values are independent of one another and may be adjusted in the

field. For example, to reduce the 20 mA endpoint value from the factory setting of 100°C, but to
XCBWMSJZSCWJ REV1.0 Page 6 / Total21

allow the4 mA endpoint to remain at 0°C, perform only the steps listed in 5.2 below.

NOTE: The RED wire, which is not connected during normal 4to 20 mA operations, assumes

an important role in the following procedures.

5.1 To adjust the 4mA endpoint in the field:

a. Expose the sensor to the temperature desired to correspond with 4 mA (-10°C to

100°C/85°C submersible). (Be sure to allow sufficient time for the sensor to equilibrate to this

temperature.)

b. With power applied as described in Picture 1 and Picture 2, connect the RED wire to the

WHITE wire for 15 seconds. (After about 10 seconds the output will drop to 3.6 mA and remain

there until the RED wire is disconnected.)

c. Disconnect the RED wire from the WHITE wire; The 4 mA endpoint has been adjusted.

NOTE: The output will act as a switch if the 4 and 20 mA endpoints are set very near to the

same value.

5.2 To adjust the 20 mA endpoint in the field:

a. Expose the sensor to the temperature desired to correspond with 20 mA (-10°C to

100°C/85°C submersible). (Be sure to allow sufficient time for the sensor to equilibrate to this

temperature.)

b. With power applied as described in Picture 1 and Picture 2, connect the RED wire to the

BLACK wire for 15 seconds. (After about 10 seconds the output will rise to 22 mA and remain

there until the RED wire is disconnected.)

c. Disconnect the RED wire from the BLACK wire; the 20 mA endpoint has been adjusted.

NOTE: The output will act as a switch if the 4 and 20 mA endpoints are set very near to the

same value. Minimum span is ±2% of maximum range.

5.3 To restore the factory setting:

a. Disconnect power to the sensor. Wait 10 s for circuit to discharge.

b. Connect the RED wire to the WHITE wire.

c. Apply power as described in Picture 1 and Picture 2, but with the RED wire connected to

the WHITE wire for 15 seconds.

(After about 10 seconds the output will drop to 3.6 mA and remain there until the RED wire

is disconnected.)

1 Monkey Wrench 1

2. Visual Inspection

The surface of instrument case and outer components (terminal knob, panel, switch etc.

should be smooth and clean, nameplates and signs should be clean and bright.

3. Detection and Debug Procedure

a. Before testing, power on 1~2 minutes to warm-up, then testing in 35PSU standard seawater.

If there is big value difference, you can fine-tune the Slope. Ensure the value within permissible

error range.

b. Take out the sensor from the cup, cleaning in distilled water and drying with a clean cloth,

put it in 5PSUstandard seawater to test. If the value is large difference, you can fine-tune the Zero.

Ensure the value within permissible error range.

c. Take out the sensor from the cup, cleaning in distilled water and drying with a clean cloth;

put it in 20PSUstandard seawater to test the accuracy of the value. If the error exceeds 2.0PSU,

return to the factory to debug.

Notes: If the standard seawater was contained in a cup, the electrode cannot touch the wall of

the cup (including the cup’s bottom and sidewall); the distance is at least 20mm to prevent

inaccurate measurement. The white electrode must be immerged in the liquid.

4. Calibration Procedure

0~100PSU salinity transmitter calibration, take two-wire 4-20mA output as example, the

wiring connection as below.

Zero Calibration

● The instrument returns to the main menu after automatic zero adjustment. At this moment,

the instrument and controller display ZERO and the instrument outputs 4mA.

4. Gas Calibration

The measurement accuracy of the detector can be ensured only after completing two-point

calibration, so it is required to carry out gas calibration after zero calibration during detector

maintenance. The gas calibration shall be carried out using standard gas with some concentration,

so it is necessary to set the concentration value of the standard gas to be used before gas

calibration

4.1 Setting operation

After entering the main menu (operation is the same as above-mentioned), let the cursor

select through the "+" or "-" key and click the MODE key with 4mA outputted from the

instrument to enter the "Gas Calibration" status as shown in the lower figure. The figure at the

setting of calibration value → gas calibration, especially the zero calibration must be carried out
XCBWMSJZSCWJ REV1.0 Page 19 / Total21

before gas calibration

a) Preparations for gas calibration (as shown in the lower figure.):

● A pressure relief valve is mounted on the standard gas bottle to be used and shall be a

pressure relief valve within the flow adjustment range specified in the inspection specification or a

pressure relief valve with constant flow.

● After automatic gain adjustment for the instrument is completed, "Calibration is successful"

will be displayed, as shown in the lower figure. The figure at the lower part of the picture means

the time value to be counted down. At this moment, the instrument display and controller shall
XCBWMSJZSCWJ REV1.0 Page 20 / Total21

indicate the standard gas concentration value within the error range and the instrument outputs the

corresponding current. If "Calibration fails" is displayed, the instrument outputs 22mA. Please

repeat the above-mentioned steps for instrument calibration.

Calibration done

● Close the pressure relief valve and remove the calibration hood, meaning the calibration is

completed.

5. Setting of Instrument Parameters

When the detector becomes a part of the system that also includes other controllers, if the

display terminal of the detector isn't consistent with controller display value due to the deviation

from detector output reference or from full-scale current or for other reason, the deviation can be

corrected through adjusting 4mA or 20mA output current. However, it is required to determine the

reason for such deviation before such adjustment. Therefore, this operation shall be completed

with the help of confirmed accurate current measuring tools; otherwise, improper adjustment will

increase system measurement deviation.

5.1 Setting of 4mA Output

Setting operation:

● Connect the current meter to the measured circuit in series.

● After entering the main menu (operation is the same as above-mentioned), let the cursor

select through the "+" or "-" key and click the MODE key to enter "4mA Calibration"
status as shown in the lower figure. The current meter displays the output current value of the

detector circuit.

● Adjust the output current value to 4.00mA through the "+" or "-" key.
