Reading
16 Read the email and put sentences a–f in the correct place in the text.
Dear Penny,
How are things? I hope everything’s going well in your new job. It’s been so long since we got
together – there’s loads to catch up on and I realise I haven’t been in touch for ages. 1 d
It was such a shame you couldn’t make the Larmer Tree Festival again as I’m sure you’d
have enjoyed it. I decided to get a ticket for the whole four days this time so I could camp
and really make the most of all the music. You know what it’s like otherwise. 2
We were really lucky with the weather this time as I certainly wouldn’t have enjoyed it quite
so much if we’d had to put the tent up in the pouring rain! They’d moved the campsite area,
so we were nearer the main entrance, which made it much more convenient, although it was
quite loud as we were also much nearer the music stages.
3
As usual, there were some fantastic bands and some excellent comedy stuff as well.
You know how small the venue is, so we managed to find one another whenever we
wanted to.
The best thing this year was the parade on the Sunday. As I went with Emma and her two
children, I got involved in much more of the children’s stuff than I would have done
otherwise. The theme was the natural world, so we all made costumes and masks
representing different aspects of the planet. 4 The parade went through the main music
area and everyone clapped and cheered as we went past.
The only thing that was a bit disappointing this year was the food. You know how they
usually have lots of stalls selling international food – well, it all seemed rather overpriced and
not particularly different. 5
Anyway, all in all, it was great. It was just such a shame you couldn’t join us. We must make
sure we go next year. 6
Love,
Fiona

a You’re just getting into the mood and then you have to leave.
b Emma’s kids are really into Africa, so we made an elephant and a giraffe (well, with a bit of
imagination!).
c Perhaps it was just me, but there definitely wasn’t the variety.
d I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the summer!
e I think the tickets will be on sale very soon, so let’s just book!
f In the end I went off on my own for some of the time as we couldn’t all agree on what we
wanted to listen to.
