9. (a) The Ugandan traffic police is at all times strict on drivers and passengers to always fasten their seat
belts whenever they are travelling using any automobile. Why do you sink so? (01 mark)

(b) A bus of mass 2 tones moving at 5ms-1 collided on to a trailer of mass 1 tone packed along side the
road and they move separately in the same direction. If the velocity of the bus after collision was 3ms -1,

10. (a) When a pencil is placed in a transparent glass beaker containing water in such a way that it leans on
one side, it is observed that the pencil appears bent. Explain the cause of the observation. (01 mark)

Section B (20 marks) attempt any two.

11. The construction of a four storied building at a certain school collapsed and scores of people died. The
LC1 accused the headteacher of sacrificing the deceased to appease his spiritual ancestors in order to get
riches. This created a lot of unrest and the residents want to gang up to destroy the school.
Task: As a student who has studied material science, prepare a short speech to resolve the unrest.
(10 marks)
12. You have been selected amongst science students to go on a field trip. You have been tasked to design
and make a solar concentrator that will be used for cooking while on the field tour.
Task: Using the knowledge of reflection of light, what materials are you likely to use and what design
would you prefer to make it work. (10 marks)

13. At some black-spots on Karuma – Gulu highway, it has been noted in the recent years that several road
fatalities involving motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians’ accidents have occurred. These road black-
spots are locations like sharp road bends, steep slopes, road check points and traffic junctions. The area
is also believed to have evil spirits cast by wicked people. Anxiety, fear, loss of lives and mistrust have
cropped amongst the road users, local community, local council leaders and the police. The authorities
have organized meeting for these stake holders.
Task: Write a speech to the above concerned stake holders to help address tis challenge. (10 marks)

14. A swimming pool in sun city amusement park in Soroti has had problems with some people drowning
when they go swimming in it for the last six month. The community including several residents,
customers, local council leaders and the police have developed unfriendly working relationship with the
hotel staff and have been to courts of law on several occasions. Several hotel staff have been expelled
from work amidst citing curses and witch craft. This resulted into a big crisis amongst the stake holders.
Task: Assume you are the new hotel manager and a meeting of the stake holders has been organized.
Write a report you will give to help resolve the problem. (10 marks)
