CHAPTER 1
Project Context
Aging of the population, an increased life expectancy, and the need for
an independent living are already widely recognized social changes that
put a massive pressure on the healthcare system. In this context, the
inclusion and involvement of elders in the IT society is mandatory.
Assistive technology (technology designed to increase, maintain, or
improve the functional capabilities of older adults,), due to its
impressive evolution, is believed to be capable of solving the gap
between the wishes of the elders and their needs. Although a wide range
of technology is present in the daily lives of seniors, directly dealing
with it can be frustrating and stigmatizing especially due to the lack of
ease of use. It is erroneously considered that technology design is
already user-friendly. Considering the deterioration of physical and
cognitive abilities, the present paper is a theoretical overview on the
most important design principles and device features needed to fulfill the
elders’ needs. This review can serve as a starting point for researchers
and practitioners in their endeavor to design more suitable technology
for older people. (Technological Forecasting and Social Change Volume
155, June 2020, 119977).
Objectives of the study
To help users manage their healthcare effectively by
reminding them to take their medications on time and alerting
through the apps.
To facilitate a seamless flow of information between the user
and healthcare professionals, enabling better coordinated care
and health management.
Significance of the Study
Monitoring Scheduled medicine maintenance for elders might be
inaccurate if it is done manually specially if you have a hectic schedule.
The user can modify the schedule for daily usage of medicine for elders
and it will notify directly to the guardian who modify the schedule.
Elder/Patient.
An in individual who is receiving needed professional services that are
directed by licensed practitioner of the healing arts toward maintenance.
Developers.
This study broadens Knowledge of the researcher in the system
development by reminding to take a medicine. The study shall be a
motivation to venture into the study of automatic medicine reminder
using the application.
Future Researcher.
The future researcher learns to value the importance of enhancing their
skills and work performance while gaining knowledge to the study.
Scope And Delimitation
The Health Maintenance Assistant App is designed to empower individuals to take
charge of their health through a suite of functionalities including medication
reminders, medicine information scanner, and alarm medicine intake. It serves a
broad audience, from those looking to improve their general well-being to patients
managing chronic conditions, by offering a user-friendly interface compatible with
Android platforms and capable of integrating with wearable devices for real-time
data tracking. However, the app's utility is delimited by geographical and cultural
limitations, focusing initially on select regions and may not fully accommodate all
global dietary preferences. It is intended for non-acute, chronic condition
management and does not substitute professional medical consultations. Adherence
to data privacy laws is paramount, imposing restrictions on data sharing.
Moreover, the app's functionality is contingent upon internet access and the
accuracy of third-party device data, with limited integration capabilities with
existing healthcare systems due to diverse standards and regulations.
he use of mobile health (mHealth) has become common in recent years and is
regarded as one of the most effective interventions for developing disease-specific
management skills and establishing confidence in making preventive health
behavior changes and accomplishing health-related goals among community-
dwelling older adults. Most mHealth designs adopt a reactive care approach
whereby health care professionals do not respond until they receive abnormal
assessment results from the database or a message or signal from the client. The
purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of a proactive mobile health
application program with the support of a community health-social care team for
older adults dwelling in the community on improving their self-care health
management.Arkers Kwan Ching Wong;
