    Paragraph:

    A paragraph is generally fairly short. It should have a specific topic or theme.


    The body of the paragraph should explain the main point or idea of the paragraph. In a
    paragraph, there is a topic sentence, followed by supporting details, and a conclusion.
    (Use your own ideas throughout your discussions)

    Essay:

    An essay consists of several paragraphs covering the main idea or thesis of the essay.
    Writing an essay generally requires more time, thinking, and preparation. More
    research often needs to be done to develop the main idea of an essay.

    Most students are familiar with a five-paragraph essay. The first paragraph introduces
    the main idea of the essay. The next three paragraphs are used to support the main
    idea. The last paragraph summarizes the main concept of the essay. It should support
    the main idea made throughout the essay. (You can copy a quote or source, but it must
    be cited properly. Expound the copied ideas using your own ideas)

    In writing paragraphs and essay, make sure to check your grammar and spelling to
    ensure the readability and so that it will not alter the thought being delivered. Also,
    make sure to cite your sources when using or sharing someone’s idea even if you did
    not copy it word by word.

    0 point – The student is unable to elicit the ideas and concepts from the readings and
    video indicating that he has not read the prescribed reading or watched the video.

    1 point- The student is able to elicit the ideas and concepts from the readings and
    video but shows erroneous

    2points – the student is able to elicit the ideas and concepts from the readings and
    video and shows correct understanding of these.

    3points – The student not only elicits from the readings and video but also shows
    evidence of internalizing these.

    4points – The student elicits the correct ideas from the readings and video, shows
    evidence of internalizing these, and consistently contributes additional thoughts
    that Mathematics is a useful way to think about nature and our world.
