is given for reproduction in whole or in part, this notice and the notice set forth on each page of this
document shall appear in any such reproduction in whole or in part.
UNCONTROLLED WHEN PRINTED OR TRANSMITTED ELECTRONICALLY
NOTE
Observance of the conditions of this technical instruction and performance of
the activities described therein is the basis of safe and efficient transport of
the plant.
Non-observance of the conditions of this technical instruction and/or non-performance of the
prescribed activities or any departure from the prescribed activities shall result in the loss of
guarantee rights. This shall not be the case if the operator/carrier shows that although the
technical instruction was observed, defects already existed at the time of handover or
commissioning.
The activities and conditions defined in this technical instruction shall be performed and/or
observed by the plant operator. This shall not apply if this technical instruction is expressly
allocated to the area of responsibility of INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG or a contractual
agreement between the operator/carrier and INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG provides for
a different arrangement.
1 Scope
This Technical Instruction (TA) applies to the following Jenbacher modules:
• Type 2 engines
• Type 3 engines
• Type 4 engines
• Type 6 engines
• Type 9 engines
It does not cover:
• transport in crates, transport boxes or other rigid packing
2 Purpose
This Technical Instruction (TA) expands the information in TA 1000-0042 and TA 1000-0046 by adding
instructions on securing Jenbacher modules during transport.
3 Safety information
WARNING
Personal injury
Failure to use personal protective equipment and to comply with safety instructions or
employee protection information may lead to personal injury.
Ø Wear the relevant personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ø Observe the safety instructions as per TA 2300-0005.
Ø Observe the employee protection information as per TA 2300-0001.
4 Additional information
The transport hoods provided with type 9 engines protect the module to be transported. These are to be
returned to INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG after unloading.
Transport safety pegs must be fitted as described in TA 1000-0044. This applies to lifting modules,
transporting them on transport vehicles and positioning them in engine rooms.
Relevant documents:
TA 1000-0042 – Lifting, transporting and placing Jenbacher generating sets in engine rooms.
TA 1000-0044 – Transport safety pegs
TA 1000-0046 – Lifting, transporting and placing Jenbacher generating sets in engine rooms.
TA 2300-0001 – Employee protection
TA 2300-0005 – Safety regulations
EN 12195 – Load-securing devices on road vehicles - Safety.
5 Transport vehicles
Jenbacher modules may be transported by means of the following transport methods if they are secured
against slipping and tipping in accordance with this document:
• Road transport (truck)
• Sea transport (in ISO transport container or self-made container from INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co
OG )
• Air freight
Rail transport
Transport on rail vehicles should be avoided because hard impacts occur. This can damage generator
bearings (so-called "false brinelling"). There is also the risk during shunting of railway wagons being
bumped an pushed away. The high longitudinal accelerations that occur can lead to damage to engine
bearings and cold welding.
If rail transport is unavoidable, the transporter must ensure that wagons are not pushed off. In addition,
insulating mats or other damping elements must be placed under the module frame. This is automatically
the case with container versions.
6 Loading
6.1 General
Loading must be carried out by an experienced and trained loader holding all the necessary training
certificates. The loader in this context is the person operating the lifting equipment used to load the truck,
regardless of whether they are an employee of INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG or the carrier (truck
driver or person responsible for loading). The following are permissible for loading Jenbacher Engines on
to trucks:
• Forklift trucks with adequate lifting capacity, lifting height and lifting range if permitted by the relevant
Technical Instruction (TA) for the engine type.
• Mobile cranes
• Stationary cranes
When loading with this lifting equipment, all the work instructions and safety instructions of the lifting
equipment manufacturer and those laid down by law must be observed. The loader must familiarise
himself with these in advance.
DANGER
Oily cargo floor
Death or serious injury due to the load slipping or tipping over. Oily cargo floors surfaces
can reduce the friction values between the cargo floor and the load by as much as 70-90 %.
This means that secure lashing can no longer be guaranteed. The consequences are
overloading and failure of lashing equipment and / or anchor points. This can cause the load
to slip or tip.
Ø Cargo floors must be swept clean and be free of oil, grease and other contaminants.
TA 1000-0042 – Lifting, transporting and placing Jenbacher generating sets in engine rooms.
TA 1000-0046 – Lifting, transporting and placing Jenbacher generating sets in engine rooms.
7 Protection
7.1 General
Jenbacher modules must be secured during transport in accordance with the regulations and guidelines
of EN 12195 and VDI 2700. Securing using friction-locking alone and combined friction locking and
positive locking are both permissible. The carrier is under an obligation to ensure that the driver assigned
is familiar with all the rules and regulations and has been trained in them. The appropriate lashing
equipment must be provided by the carrier and - if so requested - presented to the person responsible for
despatch at INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG before loading is commenced.
Lashing equipment which is missing or does not comply with legal requirements will result in loading
being refused until the required equipment is presented. The complaint and resultant delay must be duly
noted in the delivery note. Any costs incurred by the delay or total refusal to load, including consequential
costs, shall be borne by the carrier. INNIO Jenbacher GmbH & Co OG further reserves the right to claim
against the carrier for any penalty payments resulting from late delivery of the module to the customer,
should a justified refusal to load for the above reasons be the cause of the delayed delivery.
Lashing straps and lashing chains with the following properties are prescribed for lashing down
Jenbacher modules (without accessories): To avoid damaging the module, always use edge protection
suitable for the respective lashing equipment.
Lashing strap type 1:
• Lashing strap as per EN 12195-2
• Width at least 50 mm
• LC 2 500 daN
• STF 300 daN – 350 daN
• Elongation at LC: max. 4 %
• Preferably carabiner hook with safety latch, alternatively triangular hook
Lashing strap type 2:
• Non-reusable lashing strap
• Width at least 40 mm
• Breaking load 8 500 daN
• Max. elongation 7 %
Lashing strap type 3:
• Heavy-duty lashing strap as per EN 12195-2
• Width at least 50 mm
• At least LC 5 000 daN
The module must be restrained as shown in the Figures below. The quantity and position of the lashings
will depend on the weight of the module and the accessibility of the lashing points on the vehicle.
The restraints must be always be fitted directly between the lifting point on the module and the load-
bearing point on the transport vehicle, i.e. the lashing straps must run in a straight line between these two
points and must not touch any other components. In particular, it must be ensured that no other
components are subjected to any forces from the restraints which could deform or damage them, and that
no components can deform during transport and result in the restraints becoming loose or undone.

When shipping by ISO container, the module is lashed to a transport frame in the container. The lashing
concepts shown below ensure the safe transport of the module on this transport frame. The carrier is
responsible for a secure connection between the transport frame and the container against slipping and
tipping. The following maximum forces, which act on the total centre of gravity of the module, must be
taken into account:
J416 D/E:
• Longitudinal direction of module: 55.7 kN
• Transverse direction of module: 111.4 kN
• Total centre of gravity of module:
– 2 739 mm from generator-end of frame
– 585 mm from centre bar frame side member
– 912 mm above contact surface
DANGER
Insufficient load capacity of the lashing points on the transport frame
Death or serious injury due to the load slipping or tipping over on the transport frame
Ø The attachment points on the transport frame for the lashing straps must ensure a
minimum load capacity of 1 850 daN. This corresponds to a breaking load of
3 700 daN (safety factor 2 as per EN 12195-2).
DANGER
Non-compliance with lashing strap pre-tensioning
Death or serious injury due to the load slipping or tipping over on the wooden transport
frame (pretension too low) or due to failure of attachment points (pretension too high).
Ø Make absolutely sure that the pretension of the lashing straps for transport on the
transport frame is set between 500 - 900 daN.

This is an exploratory test to determine the sliding friction coefficient and should not be used to calculate
the load restraint in practice.
The minimum requirements for friction coefficients according to VDI 2700, Sheet 15 (general) and Sheet
9 (especially for paper transport) apply to anti-slip mats. The Regupol® Anti-slip mats exceed these
minimum requirements by 15-50% depending on the material pairing. As external factors (such as
humidity, vehicle floor and soiled cargo floor) are difficult to calculate in practice, it is recommended to
use a friction coefficient of 0.6 µ as a value in calculating the load restraint (for dry and well-swept anti-slip
flooring).
