The Impact of ethics on privacy, social media and illegal downloading.

Ethics as we all know are the basic or fundamental morals, values and beliefs that make
up our behavior, conduct, how we act around others and how we carry out our everyday
lives and activities. It is important for us to know our ethical make-up. Not only does it
help us to know what to do in certain circumstances, but it helps us do the right thing
according to our morals and ethics. Whether we like it or not, ethics affect almost
everything we do from day to day, from our personal lives and social lives, medical, law,
politics, religion, even up to our jobs in the business sector. We should all try to
understand that our actions affect other people in ways we can never control and this
should not be taken lightly because everyone has feelings and it is fair that we all treat
each other in ways we would also like to be treated, with respect, justice and equality.

As hard as most of us try not to, it is very easy to overlook a few certain things that are
not so easy to grasp when it comes to ethics. Privacy is one of those aspects in life
that we sometimes seem not to respect or view as important. We all have our right to
privacy when it comes to our personal lives and information that should not be known by
others. We all have secrets and it is important to understand that if someone trusts you
with some confidential information that should not be exposed, that it should stay that
way. Trust is a virtue that is not easy to come by or replace, so try by all means not to
lose trust from others, especially those who are close to you.

In today’s world we even find people who enjoy infringing other people’s privacy through
cyber attacks, online scams and identity theft. All these fall under crime, yet people still
go ahead and do these things without even feeling bad for the person being affected by
what they are doing. We should try our best to be careful, always having secure online
accounts with concrete passwords that must be renewed every once in a while for
safety purposes. One of the biggest and most influential things that have slowly but
surely become so crucial and important in our lives is social media. In the generation
that we live in, almost everyone is on some form of a social media platform. We also
find that there are people who abuse social media platforms in an unethical conduct
towards others.

Whether we like it or not, social media has become a part of our daily lives. It’s the
easiest and most efficient way to keep in touch with everyone, but also the most
dangerous. We have all heard of social media accounts getting hacked and it usually
never ends in a good way because people’s reputations are tarnished when the hackers
take control of their accounts and basically freeze all their accounts and online assets.
Other than being hacked, most of the time we become our own most enemies because
we simply do not know what is appropriate to post on our social media platforms. We
post the most absurd and disturbing things that are not suitable for viewing by a large
audience. In today’s world, your social media pages reflect on who you are, so next time
you are about to post something, ask yourself if what you are posting is how you would
like to be seen by people, ask yourself if it is appropriate and ethically correct according
to your morals and belies. Not only your beliefs are important when deciding to post or
not, we should understand that people have different beliefs and religions. So it’s not
everything that is right to you, right to everyone else. Even in the business sector we
find that CEOs actually do background check ups before they hire an employee, and
what’s the best way to do that other than to go through the social media platforms of this
person to see what kind of person they really are of course.

The impact that ethics on us is so great so much that we find it in almost every aspect of
our lives. No matter how much we try we still do things without any clue that it may be
ethically wrong. The most famous one is illegal downloading. Now a lot of people
might not see anything wrong with downloading all kinds of content from the internet,
but we should also understand that whatever we are downloading is something from
someone’s online business that should be legally paid for and purchased for income.
Everyone wants free music, videos and movies because its entertainment ,but just how
far are we willing to go when it comes to illegally downloading these from the internet
without even thinking about the people who worked hard to have all that put up for
purchase to gain income. Illegal downloading is not ethical; to be honest is a “fancy”
way of stealing other people’s hard work. We should also try our best to post our
creative work on legit platforms that provide copyright so that your work is protected
from theft and copying, but don’t make it too expensive, because people will just go
back to finding ways of downloading without paying. Let’s all try our best to be ethically
on the right side of every situation and it will keep our legacy growing for generations to
come.
