Mud Program Requirement
Generalities:
- At 75% of rig up, senior mud engineer should be present on the rig site.
-start testing and reception of all low pressure mud installation according to Sonatrach procedure.
-Verify the condition and tightness of mud pits and pits gates.
-Monitor and test the operation of all solids control equipments.
-Check and inventory of all screens available on rig site and order what is missing.
-Supervise the assembly and testing of the centrifuges before spud date.
-Check the number and condition of the screens available on rig site to be used for receiving of OBM.
-Flush the water line.
-Fill all tanks with water and mix the spud mud.

26” interval
- Mixing the total volume of rig capacity.
- Shale shakers: optimization of screens by using the possible fine mesh as much as the flow
16” interval
- The average OBM volume needed for this section is 600m3 in which maximum volume is 70/30
around 300m3 & continue adjusting the 0/W ratio of circulating mud by using 80/20 & 90/10 to
reach at end of this section around 85/15.
- While drilling this section @ 800m start mixing mud for the next interval 12”1/4.
- While pulling out, the string can be stacked in turonian or saliferous formations.
- prior cementing 13”3/8 casing the yield point of a minimum volume of circulating system should
be reduced to about 17- 18 lb/100ft2 utilizing fresh mud & OMC. This treatment is precautionary
made to reduce the higher ECD while circulating the casing string in the hole.
It does also prevent cement channelling during cementing & to help provide an improved
cement bond.
- Mud engineer must ensure physical monitoring of volumes during Tripping operations (BHA,
Casing & liner).
- While running casing mud engineer must use the electronic file to record and evaluate losses
and gains. The company man must be informed every 300m and any abnormality.
- Handover between day and night mud engineers must be written on the register for the award
set available on all mud laboratories.
- Strictly prohibits mud engineers to manipulate valves, down inside pits or drive different rig
Gears.
- In case of partial losses, prepare 10 to 15 m3 LCM with concentration 150 kg/m3 using the
Following products:
75 kg/m3 of mixture Nutplug Medium / Nutplug fine.
75 kg/m3 of mixture Mica Medium / Mica fine.
- losses coming from retained on cutting should be around 80% of drilled volume.
- Day mud engineer is the first responsible for all critical operations during special
operations both mud engineers must be present.
12“ ¼ Interval
- While drilling out cement with OBM 1.25sg, ensure that cement is hard then perform
displacement.
- Shale shakers: optimization of screens by using the possible fine mesh as much as the flow
rates will allow.
if 1m3/hr< losses<2m3/hr
concentration should be 120 kg/m3 of mixture Mica/Nutplug( 60 kg fine, 60 kg Medium)
- Mud engineer must ensure physical monitoring of volumes during Tripping operations (BHA,
Casing & liner).
- While running casing mud engineer must use the electronic file to record and evaluate losses
and gains. The company man must be informed every 300m and any abnormality.
- HI-VIS SWEEP is not recommended for heavy mud section.
- While pulling after drilling to KOP, clean all active pits and pump screens.
- Day mud engineer is the first responsible for all critical operations during special
operations both mud engineers must be present.
8”3/8 Interval
- While drilling out cement with heavy mud, ensure that cement is hard then perform
displacement.
- Shale shakers: optimization of screens by using the possible fine mesh as much as the flow
rates will allow.
- Keep the kill mud 2.40sg for the next interval & until the end of well.
- While running 7” liner mud engineer must use the electronic file to record and evaluate losses
and gains. The company man must be informed every 300m and any abnormality.
6” Interval
- Shale shakers: optimization of screens by using the possible fine mesh as much as the flow

- ensure good hole cleaning & specially in the horizontal drain by using 3m3 low vis followed by
3 m3 Hi vis.
- Low vis between 3 & 4 Ibs/100ft2.
- Hi vis between 30 & 40 Ibs/100ft2.
- in case of partial losses:
Losses< 2m3/hr: mix 5 m3 of LCM with the following concentration 160kg/m3:
Barofibre F 50 kg/m3
Steel seal 50 kg/m3
BARACARB 50 kg/m3
Lime 10 kg/m3
Losses > 2m3/hr: mix 5 m3 of LCM with the following concentration 310kg/m3:
Barofibre F 100 kg/m3
Steel seal 100 kg/m3
BARACARB 100 kg/m3
Lime 10 kg/m3
