Network Parameters Introduction
DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, LAN network protocol, worked by UDP
protocol, it is mainly to assign IP addresses automatically for internal network or internet
service providers.

Repeater could acquire address automatically from DHCP router which already opened
if the parameters have been selected, in order to reduce the configuration time and
avoid address repetition.

Buffer queue length: repeater usually have abnormal voice problem because of network
delay during reception. According to the current bandwidth, if make appropriate adjustment
on buffer queue length could provide some optimization. Each unit delay from 60ms to
480ms, only react in the process of repeater receive the network business.

P2P firewall open time: after registration completed, master repeater and slave repeater need
maintain connection by heartbeat packets, this parameter is just the time of how long a
heartbeat packet will be sent.

Port Explanation:
Mater UDP ports: IP Internet UDP port, require master and slave repeater is consistent, its
main purpose is to ensure consistent protocol port, for registering and maintaining the
connection.
IP Internet business port: pure business port which used for users to transmit voice, data
and other business. Also require master and slave repeater is consistent.
Remote Repeater Diagnostics And Control port: used for RDAC communication, request
keep consistent with software.

Network Parameters Introduction

Channel slot selection is very important, if configured IP connection, but did not select the
appropriate time slot, the network is ok, but the current channel could not transit data
through the IP Internet, only could transit the data under the coverage of this repeater.
Slot 1: Repeater will achieve IP internet transit through “slot 1” when it works in the current
channel.
Slot 2: Repeater will achieve IP internet transit through “slot 2” when it works in the current
channel.
Slot 1 & Slot 2: Repeater will achieve IP internet transit through “slot 1” and “slot 2” when it
works in the current channel.

Considering the following network, the repeater uses slot 1 and slot 2 to
exchange data with other repeaters in an IP Multi-site Connect network.

The repeater, when accessed, would send out all data within 30ms. Needs to reserve 8~9ms to buffer within 30ms.

Each repeater need 0.7ms for reception.

Repeater DHCP Enabling

Host

Router must enable DHCP function:

1. Master must not use DHCP to avoid slaves not being

able to register because of IP address changing;
2. Subnet host is the same as above;
3. 2-layer switch doesn’t support DHCP function,
SW although slave uses DHCP function, if it connects with
the switch, this configuration is invalid.

Slave 1 Slave 2 Slave 3 Slave 4

Port forwarding needs the fixed IP of internal network, otherwise, once DHCP changes, port forwarding will
then become invalid.

Repeater DHCP Enabling
Q: What if DHCP assigns the IP address successfully, but there is still no access?

A:You can only identify internal network IP manually and then do the port forwarding.

Port Forwarding Methodology

What is port forward? We can use port forward to make sure successful connection
once P2P can not communicate.

Port forward is usually used on the

repeater that does not talk back.

Network Connection Icon:

Possible issues:
1.Network parameters configuration issues
2.Host checks its own IP address
Hytera-IP 3.Slave checks master IP whether it is correct and master operates normally?
4.Check router for normal operations

Connection abnormal
(related with software but has registration)

Possible issues:
1.The connection between network cable and repeater fails
Hytera-IP 2.Network cable broken
3.Router’s interface is not operational
4.Network card is broken

Connection fails
(related with hardware and has no registration)

Example 1: IP Scenario’s

There are two obvious configuration problems: Solution:

1. Slave IP address doesn’t have master IP; 1.Master needs to select IP service port & RDAC
2. Unchecked IP connection service port & RDAC 2.Slave fills in the right master address;

Example 2: Repeater disconnected from network

Scenario: 2 repeaters access to network and

then the slave often gets disconnected.

Analysis: Check software and network. It’s ok,

but finds that the network port light doesn’t
flash normally after opening the front cover.
The light is on but doesn’t flash.

Solution: The hardware is broken, Please

replace with a new one.

RD982 - Summary

In general, Hytera repeaters have three interfaces:

• The Ethernet interface – This is via the RJ45 Ethernet connector on the back of the RD982.

• The RF Air Interface – this is done via the transmitter and receiver using the ETSI DMR Open-
Standard.

• The USB interface

• Supports IPv4 addressing.

• Uses UDP/IP to transfer voice and data.

• Requires sufficient bandwidth to pass voice and data between sites.

• Generally requires a stable latency of less than around 600ms**.

• Jitter as close as possible to zero.

• Requires one static IP address per network for the master repeater.

• Supports VPN, NAT, VLANs, Firewalls etc.

** Based on customer feedback. The Hytera Engineering recommendation for latency is less
than 90ms.

Roaming List

Roam List is a group of channels under monitoring. A user can add or delete the
list according to the actual requirements.
Each list can include a maximum of 32 channels, with a minimum requirement of
two channels.

www.hytera.us
Roaming List

Available

This option allows the user to view all available channels. All digital channels with
the option IP Multisite Connect checked will be displayed in this list.
Note
This option is applicable to digital channel only.

Members

This option allows the user to view all selected roam lists. Each list can include 32
channels, which will be scanned in roam mode.
Option Description
Current channel
Up to 31 channels can be added from the Available List.
Note
This option is applicable to digital channel only.

www.hytera.us
Roaming List

Active Site Roam

A radio with roam enabled, will try to transmit the voice or data information on
the master site first. When the repeater corresponding to the master site is
unavailable, the user can enable this option. As a result, the radio will transmit
a revival command to all associated repeaters, and switch to work with the
repeater found to be available. If all repeaters are unavailable, a out of range
message will be given.

RSSI Threshold

This option allows the user to set the threshold value of the RX signal
strength. It is deemed to be good when the signal strength value of a channel
is above the threshold, and the radio will skip to it in roam mode.
