The document provides technical specifications and operating instructions for electric chain hoists.

The main components of an electric chain hoist include the motor, gear, electrics, brakes, overload device, and chain reeving components.

The duty class of an electric chain hoist is determined by the operating time per day and the load spectrum factor, which is calculated based on the lifting time at different load percentages.

2.4 Hoisting brakes

The chain hoist is equipped with a disc brake. There is one rotating disc with two lining surfaces. The brake coil is
energized by DC voltage coming from brake rectifier. The brake rectifier converts AC voltage into DC voltage. The
protection class is IP66. Rotating parts are not enclosed to ensure the self cleaning function.
The brake will last for the designed working period of the hoist. Its air gap can easily be checked at the brake coil,
through an inspection hole. The maximum possible air gap is indicated on a sticker attached to the brake and has
to be checked from there.
Brake lining criteria is indicated in the sticker placed next to the measurement hole.
In case the brake has worn more than the maximum criteria, contact authorized service personnel for brake
change.

2.5 Overload device: Slipping clutch

The overload protection of the unit is ensured through a direct acting limiter of slipping clutch type. The device
meets the requirements of EN14492-2 for such units.
It is set in a way that allows the unit to lift a load corresponding to the dynamic test load (110% of SWL) and
prevents the unit from lifting a load of 160% of SWL. The construction enables the brake to hold the load without
any interaction with the clutch.

The slipping clutch construction varies according to the hoist frame size. The hoist bodies CA-CB use the same
kind of clutch with just one clutch disc; whereas the bigger models, CC-CE, are built with a slipping clutch with two
clutch discs. An intermediate disc is placed between the two clutch discs providing the construction with altogether
three friction surfaces to increase the torque.

Figure 1. The following illustration presents the clutch type used in the hoists with frame sizes CA to CB. It
contains only one clutch disc.

2.6 Chain reeving components

2.6.1 Chain drive

The chain hoist units are fitted with a special patented chain drive which includes additional supporting teeth on the
sprocket. Those teeth improve the support of the chain and therefore reduce the stresses and the wear.

An accurate chain positioning is achieved with the help of intermediate teeth in the chain sprocket. This means less
chain wear and a longer lifetime of the chain.

6 LOAD RANGE AND DUTY CLASSES

5.1 Hoist classifications

The mechanism group – M4, M5 or M6 – of an electric chain hoist depends on operating time per working day and
on the class of load spectrum.

The hoist operating time (Ot) can be calculated by using following formula:

Actual load spectrum factor can be calculated using following table:

Load % Lifting time % Factor k3 Load spectrum factor

100 % * 1 =

60 % * 0.22 =
