Partner, Global Director of Geopolitics at McKinsey & Company

A fascinating twin set of discussions in London and Oxford this week on responding to the challenges posed by geopolitical risk and climate change. On geopolitical risk, pleasure to moderate a terrific panel with Michele Flournoy and Rüdiger von Fritsch as part of our 22nd Global CFO Forum with 90 CFOs from 30 countries. A key discussion theme: the need to balance a "microscopic" lens on geopolitical risk with a "telescopic lens" and the appropriate framework for CFOs to use to assess risk v. return and to optimize their organizations’ global footprint. Kudos Michael Birshan Andy West Sean Brown Gurminder Marwaha FCIM for stewarding a great event. On climate change, as an avid fan of Ministry for the Future, a treat to hear Kim Stanley Robinson speak as part of Hertford College, University of Oxford's Ministry for the Future initiative and to engage in a rich discussion with him and other leading thinkers on the multi-disciplinary solution set needed (factoring in the geopolitical dimensions of green technology). Kudos Tom Fletcher CMG and Anette Mikes for convening and leadership. Responding to the downstream effects of both challenges, great to also spend time with International Rescue Committee colleagues - Pooja Dutt Zeeshan Hussain Katherine Price - mobilizing partners to support the IRC’s critical frontline efforts under David Miliband’s leadership.

Thank you for joining us, Ziad, and moderating the panel. Very good to have Michele’s, Rudiger’s, and your perspectives on geopolitical dynamics.
