We were delighted to host Matthew O'Sullivan Deputy Opposition Whip in the Senate, at our Yappara House Early Learning Centre, where he observed our School Ready Program in action. Reflecting on his visit, Matt shared: "Seeing a session in action brought the programme’s impact to life—watching young children engage, learn, and develop early literacy skills was truly inspiring." Our School ReadY Program is designed to build the foundational skills young children need to thrive as they transition into primary education. We are grateful for Matt’s support and his recognition of the importance of early learning in shaping future success. 🌱 #EarlyLearning #SchoolReadY #EducationMatters #TheYWA

Day 5- Most Challenging Day in School One of the most challenging days was during my first year as a fellow. Our headteacher called a meeting with parents to discuss the term's events, but unfortunately, only a few attended. This was concerning, as I had noticed that many parents showed little interest in their children's education. Some students even shared that they couldn't complete homework due to responsibilities like farming or hawking. Determined to address this, my accountability partner, fellow teachers, and I decided to visit each student's home. We had open and honest conversations with parents, tackling underlying issues and encouraging them to take a more active role in their children's education. It wasn't an easy journey, but with persistence and teamwork, we've seen a significant increase in parental involvement. This experience taught me that challenges in education can be overcome with grit, collaboration, and a willingness to take bold steps. By working together, we can create a supportive community that benefits our students and inspires a love of learning. Did you know? An estimated 244 million children were out of school in 2021, including 67 million primary school children, 57 million adolescents, and 121 million youth of upper secondary school age. This staggering number highlights a critical gap in global education, leaving millions of young minds without the opportunity to learn and grow. 🌍 At NABU, we're dedicated to bridging this gap through innovative literacy initiatives. 📚💡 Our mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive through reading. By providing equal access to literacy education, we empower children around the world to reach their full potential. We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn, regardless of their circumstances. Through our books and program, we aim to foster a love for reading, enhance language skills, and support lifelong learning. Building confidence is an important part of supporting children who have been out of school and have experienced learning loss. 📚 In #Nepal Street Child is grouping children according to where they're at in their learning rather than by their age, so they learn at the right pace for them. This is part of our Teaching at the Right Level program (TaRL), which increases learning achievements very quickly and consequently boosts children's confidence and interest in education. The TaRL methodology focuses on building foundational skills, compared to the traditional focus on covering a curriculum. Students are assessed regularly and moved into different groups as they progress, which means each student is getting the quality education they need 🎒🌟 #EducationMatters #InclusiveEducation

NAPLAN results again prove we are failing our children, especially boys. I have written the same thing every year for 5 years!!! Education Ministers please give me a call - there are great tools available that will help. One in three school students in Australia are not meeting minimum literacy expectations, and 1 in 10 are so far behind they need additional support, new NAPLAN data shows. After attending a 3-day EdTech conference in Melbourne, it was great to meet with fellow educators to confirm that explicit, evidence-based literacy instruction works. Our programs Literacy For Kids & Literacy For Boys are unashamedly focussed on the basics and are perfectly aligned with the current trend toward explicit instruction. We need our Education departments in Australia to take notice and add Literacy For Kids to the toolkit! We need to move the needle on literacy! #readingimprovement #literacyforkids #comprehensionskills #literacybasics

The education landscape is changing. More and more families are removing their children from mainstream education, in favour of alternative provision or home education. Why is this? Because they have recognised that not all children (including theirs) can access mainstream learning. A structured curriculum, with a sequential approach, in a behaviourist system does not work for everyone. Some children need another way. They need a hands on approach to interest lead learning. They need someone to remind them that they are just as capable of being successful if they just embrace their passions and jump into those rabbit holes. The celebration of the differences is life changing for those children and their families. We should continue to shout about their successes and ask questions when things are not working. Those are the waves that can be the start of the changing tide. #handsonlearning #learningthoughplay #alternativeprovision #therapeuticeducation #constructivism #aqaunitawardscheme #aqauas #littlecraftersboxes #lcbeducation #intrestleadlearning #selfdirectedlearning

Yesterday, we launched our new Media Literacy For All campaign 👏 ML4ALL focuses on three critical areas that address the needs of students, educators, and schools across the country 👇 1. Align and grow best practices for MLE nationwide. 2. Ensure MLE is relevant and effective within unique social and educational contexts. 3. Integrate MLE into existing career-education structures. We seek to map the current landscape of media literacy education, develop learning outcomes for PK-12 students, create NAMLE Chapters to connect teachers to localized resources, and more 📣 Elevate collective understanding and action 🔗 namle.org/ml4all #ML4ALL #MediaLiteracyForAll #Education #MediaLiteracy

The role a teacher plays as not only an educator, but a mentor, a friend, a confidant, and a trusted adult is so critical to the success of students at our programs. Teachers drive the change we can see from students in their education, which directly impacts their overall life. Here are some things to think about when it comes to the education kids are receiving: 🎓Education is one of the main keys to the success for kids. Especially underprivileged kids who often end up as students in our programs. 🎒Education is one of the places where students can feel rewarded, see achievements, and envision success in their future, which is critical for their long term goals. 🏫Education produces hope, which is a powerful feeling. This teachers appreciation week, we want to encourage people everywhere to say thank you to their teacher friends, family, and acquaintances and help advocate for education professionals everywhere. Doing amazing work and changing lives takes a lot of hard work and passion, and we are thankful our educators have that day in and day out in their roles at ROP. #Teacherappreciation #Educators #Educationprofessionals #Underprivelagedyouth #youthempowerment #Youthadvocacy
