Day 5- Most Challenging Day in School One of the most challenging days was during my first year as a fellow. Our headteacher called a meeting with parents to discuss the term's events, but unfortunately, only a few attended. This was concerning, as I had noticed that many parents showed little interest in their children's education. Some students even shared that they couldn't complete homework due to responsibilities like farming or hawking. Determined to address this, my accountability partner, fellow teachers, and I decided to visit each student's home. We had open and honest conversations with parents, tackling underlying issues and encouraging them to take a more active role in their children's education. It wasn't an easy journey, but with persistence and teamwork, we've seen a significant increase in parental involvement. This experience taught me that challenges in education can be overcome with grit, collaboration, and a willingness to take bold steps. By working together, we can create a supportive community that benefits our students and inspires a love of learning. last week I started a series on mistakes parents make about their children's learning. Here is another area to consider... PRESSURING SCHOOLS TO PROMOTE YOUR CHILD As parents, we want the best for our children, but sometimes our enthusiasm can lead to unnecessary pressure on schools to promote them. This pressure often stems from: -Social comparisons with peers -Fear of being left behind -Overemphasis on grades -Lack of understanding of our child's learning journey Pressuring school to promote your child can have negative consequences on him/her, including: -Unnecessary stress on your child -Inadequate preparation for future academic challenges -Strained relationships with teachers and schools -Neglect of your child's individual needs and interests Instead, let us focus on: -Supporting individual growth and progress -Celebrating small victories and milestones -Collaborating with teachers to ensure appropriate support and challenges By doing so, we can help our children develop a positive relationship with learning and achieve long-term success. Let's work together to create a supportive and inclusive educational environment for all. ©Bayode Rashidat Opeyemi #parentingtips #educationmatters #supportourchildren #Opespecial #Specialeducation..

Boys are complicated... thats what some say. Let us help you unpack real tools to help you be effective in getting the best out of them in their educational journey.
What a fantastic day in the mighty Waikato! Today, I had the privilege of facilitating the "Pathways to Potential: Learning and Behaviour Breakthroughs for Boys" workshop, alongside Sacha Garrity and @Abigail Utterly. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with dedicated educators who are passionate about supporting the unique learning and behavioural needs of boys. We delved into practical strategies that teachers can immediately implement in their classrooms, fostering environments where every boy has the opportunity to thrive. The energy in the room was inspiring, and I'm excited to see how these insights will translate into impactful changes for students across the region. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a rich learning experience! Let’s continue empowering our boys to reach their full potential. #ProfessionalDevelopment #Education #BoysEducation #TeachingStrategies #WaikatoEducation #GrowthCulture

Discipline is essential for children to maintain their academic progress, and if there are any lapses, it becomes necessary to impose consequences to encourage greater effort and improvement. Structured guidance and accountability help children understand the importance of responsibility and hard work. While discipline may sometimes involve corrective measures, it should always aim to support and motivate children to reach their full potential. Ultimately, a balanced approach to discipline fosters a positive learning environment where children can thrive and develop the skills they need for future success. #DisciplineMatters #AcademicSuccess #PositiveLearning #EncourageEffort #SupportChildren #BalancedDiscipline #FutureSuccess #MotivateKids #StructuredGuidance #responsiblelearning
