Teach for Nigeria Fellow | B.Sc (Ed.) Health Education

Day 5- Most Challenging Day in School One of the most challenging days was during my first year as a fellow. Our headteacher called a meeting with parents to discuss the term's events, but unfortunately, only a few attended. This was concerning, as I had noticed that many parents showed little interest in their children's education. Some students even shared that they couldn't complete homework due to responsibilities like farming or hawking. Determined to address this, my accountability partner, fellow teachers, and I decided to visit each student's home. We had open and honest conversations with parents, tackling underlying issues and encouraging them to take a more active role in their children's education. It wasn't an easy journey, but with persistence and teamwork, we've seen a significant increase in parental involvement. This experience taught me that challenges in education can be overcome with grit, collaboration, and a willingness to take bold steps. By working together, we can create a supportive community that benefits our students and inspires a love of learning.
