SPIE OSD 2024 https://lnkd.in/etRZ6HMv Hello everyone, Back from the SPIE OSD conference in Strasbourg, the conference to be at for optical designers! I really like this very family-friendly conference. I experienced 4 very intense days, and I was able to see and greet many friends. The 4 plenaries were really great. A nod to Bill Green (https://lnkd.in/eDkbW733) who was able to make the link between specialists and the general public with observations of the Sun, the Moon and Jupiter! I don't know about you, but I find that 3 years between 2 editions is too long. The developments in our disciplines (simulation, manufacturing, alignment and testing) are too fast. Additionally, in 3 years, there will be interference with IODC. I think this conference should take place every 2 years. What do you think ? Please give me your opinion! Best wishes, Thierry #SPIE #SPIEopticalsystems #Optics #Photonics

Syntec Optics at the Global Photonics Economic Forum 2024! We're excited to share that our Chairman, Al Kapoor, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address at the recent Global Photonics Economic Forum in Malaga, Spain! A Shared Vision for the Future of Photonics Kudos to Optica and its CTO, Jose Pozo (An amazing ambassador for the photonics industry!), for sparking valuable discussion within the photonics community. Al Kapoor's Keynote: Pushing the Boundaries of Light Al, a seasoned leader with over 25 years of experience in the industry, discussed the exciting future of photonics. As the Chairman of Syntec Optics, the largest independent custom manufacturer of polymer optics in the U.S., Al has been instrumental in pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Key Parallels Emerge (What a Coherence!) The event brought together brilliant minds, and some fascinating parallels emerged between keynotes: Change Takes Time: Both Al Kapoor and Chuck Mattera (Former Chair and CEO, Coherent Corp.) highlighted that innovation often takes longer than expected before reaching a tipping point. Light is Everywhere: Al echoed the sentiment of Reinhard Voelkel, CEO of Focuslight Switzerland, emphasizing the pervasive and transformative power of light. Watch Al's Keynote Now! You can watch Al's full keynote alongside other insightful sessions from the forum on Jose Pozo's YouTube channel here: https://lnkd.in/g5hiN5jw Join the Conversation! We invite you to delve into Al's insights and the future of photonics with us. #Photonics #EconomicForum #Optica #Keynote #Innovation #Light #SyntecOptics
QUESTIONS WORTH ANSWERING FROM AL KAPOOR: I really enjoyed the thoughtful opening keynote on the second day of the recent Global Photonics Economic Forum in Malaga. 📝 New platforms for ultraconfined plasmons and optical coupling to external light Researchers at ICFO tackle the problem of light confinement in nanocavities from two different perspectives. First, they successfully realize high-quality ultrathin crystalline metal structures that can support spatially compressed plasmons; and second, they demonstrate an efficient technique to couple light to confined surface plasmons. The initial idea of ICREA Prof. at ICFO Javier García de Abajo and his group members Saad Abdullah, Eduardo J. C. Dias, Jan Krpenský and Vahagn Mkhitaryan materialized in a successful experiment, now published in ACS Photonics. In this study, they demonstrate a new method that couples light to flat surface plasmons more effectively than previous strategies. ICFO News 👉 https://bit.ly/3zlWiv1
