El Programa Chips de la Comisión Europea acaba de seleccionar la línea piloto europea de chips fotónicos, denominada “PIXEurope”, y ha iniciado la fase de negociación para financiar la misma. Coordinada a nivel continental por el ICFO desde Barcelona, y con el apoyo del Ministerio para la Transformación Digital y de la Función Pública del Gobierno de España y de la Generalitat de Catalunya, PIXEurope movilizará inversiones de unos 400 millones para ofrecer capacidades tecnológicas únicas a la industria, con el objetivo de potenciar su capacidad en chips fotónicos y posicionar a Europa como líder global. A nivel español, PIXEurope cuenta con la participación directa de entidades de las CCAA de Cataluña, Valencia, Madrid y Galicia, y beneficiará a toda la comunidad nacional del sector. Las entidades participantes son: - ICFO - Coordinador - Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) - Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC) - Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) - Universidade de Vigo (UVigo) El Dr. Valerio Pruneri, Prof. ICREA, líder de grupo del ICFO y director de la línea piloto, destaca que “PIXEurope es la primera Línea Piloto de Chips Fotónicos en Europa que unifica la diversidad de materiales, procesos, técnicas de integración que permitirán el desarrollo y la demostración de dispositivos y sistemas para todas las aplicaciones donde la Fotónica es una tecnología clave”. Dr. Frauendorf Cenni obtained her MSc in Physics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brasil. The European Commission and Chips JU select PIXEurope consortium to lead the European Pilot Line on Advanced Photonic Integrated Circuits Coordinated at the continental level by ICFO from Barcelona, and with the support of the Ministerio para la Transformación Digital y de la Función Pública of Spain, and the Generalitat de Catalunya, PIXEurope will mobilize investments of about 400 million euros to offer unique technological capabilities to industry, with the aim of enhancing its capacity regarding photonic chips and positioning Europe as a global leader. Within Spain, entities from the autonomous communities of Catalonia, Valencia, Madrid and Galicia are directly participating, and the entire national community in the sector will benefit. ICFO recently hosted the “Hands-on course on MINDLAB”, bringing together students and experts to explore advanced #photonics technologies aiming to train the next generation of neuroscience researchers. The course, organized by 5 research groups at ICFO, provided a comprehensive look at brain research. Designed to train the next generation of neuroscience researchers, it took an interdisciplinary approach to brain science, spanning molecular to systemic levels. The event featured lectures by ICFO group leaders and invited speakers, paired with hands-on lab sessions. Participants joined one of the organizing research groups and attended master classes during the week. They explored ICFO’s state-of-the-art labs, working with super-resolution microscopes and neurophotonics devices.
