💡 FACT: A significant gap exists in financing nature-based carbon removal despite its potential as a climate change solution. Increasing private investment into natural climate solutions (NCS) is vital to addressing climate, biodiversity, and land degradation challenges. 📈 🌳 Investors have a unique opportunity to accelerate the trend towards high-integrity NCS projects, sending market signals that elevate quality standards and reinforce demand for NCS-based carbon credits. The Natural Climate Solutions Alliance published an investor guide to simplify the investment process for natural climate solutions in the voluntary carbon market in six steps. Read the key points in the summary below or check out the full report here: https://lnkd.in/d3NnSgPm *** If you are looking to invest in a high-integrity terrestrial and blue carbon project, reach out to Lee Pearson to learn about our full pipeline! #naturebasedsolutions #carbonproject #mangroves #bluecarbon #southeastasia #investment #carbonfinancing

Internationalizing climate capabilities is crucial for addressing the global nature of climate change- climate issues transcend national borders and enhancing collaboration across nations allows for more effective mitigation, adaptation, and innovation strategies. Today across the pond in New Zealand our sister country is actively engaged in climate action with key leaders and actors in the climate landscape where Peter Castellas moderates the Innovation Session- Connecting Capital with Climate Solutions. New Zelanad highlights: 🚞 New Zealand has committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 under the Climate Change Response (Zero Carbon) Amendment Act 2019. 🚞 The New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS) is the country’s main tool for reducing emissions. It covers all sectors of the economy, including forestry, energy, industrial processes, and waste. 🚞 80% of its electricity from renewable sources, primarily from hydro, geothermal, and wind energy. The government has set a target to reach 100% renewable electricity generation by 2030. Can Green Innovation Power Peace? Exploring Climate Action’s Hidden Potential When we think of climate action, what comes to mind? Renewable energy, electric vehicles, or reducing carbon footprints. But here’s a twist: what if green solutions could also become powerful tools for peace? Let’s talk about the overlooked intersection of climate innovation and conflict resolution. The Climate-Conflict Connection Imagine solar panels powering not just homes but also peace talks. Or drought-resistant crops helping communities ease tensions over water. This isn’t some far-fetched dream—it’s a tangible way forward. Here’s a fact to ponder: many countries most vulnerable to climate change are also grappling with conflict. Coincidence? Not really. It’s an untapped opportunity to bring about transformative change where it’s needed most. Green Tech with a Twist: Building Peace Here are some examples of how innovation can turn environmental solutions into peace-building tools: Shared renewable energy grids: Encouraging cooperation between rival communities. Climate-smart agriculture: Creating opportunities for former adversaries to work together. Early warning systems for extreme weather: Doubling as tools for preventing conflict. These aren’t just eco-friendly innovations; they’re bridges to lasting peace. The Call for “Peace-Positive” Climate Solutions Now’s the time to think bigger. Let’s aim for climate tech that protects the planet and fosters peace. Picture: Conflict-sensitive renewable projects that bring communities together. Precision agriculture is designed with local tensions in mind. Community-led clean energy solutions that unify rather than divide. In Action: A Case Worth Celebrating A pilot project uses AI-powered water management to ensure fair distribution in the drought-stricken Horn of Africa. The twist? It’s designed to promote dialogue between historically hostile groups. The result? A 30% drop in water-related conflicts. Proof that peace and sustainability can go hand in hand. Your Turn: Join the Conversation To the climate innovators, peacebuilders, and policymakers out there—how can your work contribute to this dual mission? Share your thoughts and ideas below. Let’s reimagine a world where climate action does more than save the planet—it builds bridges and fosters peace. #ClimateAction #GreenInnovation #SustainablePeace #PeaceThroughInnovation

The Nature Restoration Law has been adopted! 🌱 On Monday, the Council formally adopted the first of its kind regulation on nature restoration, which aims to restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. In #SPARCCLE, #ecosystems will not only be considered as an option to reduce impacts from extreme weather on communities and help adapt to climate change, but also as themselves being affected. To this effect, a multi-timescale perspective will be adopted, as ecosystems are in constant interaction with their environment. “With climate change, the change in frequency and intensity of extreme weather might however push ecosystems away from their ideal perturbation regime and lead to their degradation on time scales relevant to our societies. This in term might induce a change in the services provided, such as freshwater provision, heat protection, carbon storage and biomass production,” says Chahan Kropf, SPARCCLE researcher and lecturer at the ETH Zürich. Analysis in SPARCCLE will help understand how climate impacts on ecosystems affect our ability to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. 👏 More exciting news for the VCM with IETA's publication yesterday of its Guidelines for High Integrity Use of Carbon Credits. The Earth just recorded its 10th hottest month in a row on record. There is no debate, we need to accelerate our climate action now and these guidelines set out the ways in which corporates can do this, effectively. We know from research by Ecosystem Marketplace that companies engaging in the voluntary carbon market are decarbonizing twice as fast as non-buyers. IETA's own research through AlliedOffsets found that among the companies which have set targets, emission reduction goals for Scope 1 and 2 have been exceeded by an average of 26 percent per year. Yet their research also flagged that 81 percent of companies still haven't set any climate targets. At Everland our specialists are on-hand to talk to anyone who wants to discuss how high-quality REDD+ projects can be part of their decarbonisation strategy. The projects we represent demonstrate that high integrity carbon credit purchases deliver real and lasting impact, driving transformational finance to community-based forest conservation for the benefit of our planet and humanity. Be part of the solution, today. Guidelines - https://lnkd.in/emM46zQA

Recent findings from over 60 leading climate scientists highlight a significant issue: many companies relying on ineffective carbon offsets are obstructing our path to achieving real zero emissions. These experts emphasise the need to shift focus from mere accounting to genuine reductions in emissions. As a land company dedicated to fostering connection and collaboration among landowners, users, and industry stakeholders, we believe in the power of information sharing to drive meaningful change. Together, we can support initiatives that prioritise true environmental progress over temporary fixes. Join us in advocating for transparency and action within our industry! Let’s work towards a sustainable future, where every stakeholder plays a crucial role in protecting our planet. 🔗 Read more about the scientists’ pledge here: https://lnkd.in/eMmyyiTv #landowners #carboncredits #BNG #buycarboncredits #sellcarbon #sustainableland #climateaction #carbonoffset #greeninvestment #planetfriendly #industrynews

A new scientific paper highlights five principles of effective, high-integrity natural climate solutions to help people invest in them with confidence: 1️⃣ Nature-based 2️⃣ Sustainable 3️⃣ Climate-additional 4️⃣ Measurable 5️⃣ Equitable. The ‘equitable’ principal states natural climate solutions must respect humans and Indigenous self-determination in order to be an effective tool to address the climate and biodiversity crises. At TEM, we believe traditional landowners and Indigenous communities should be at the centre of nature-based carbon projects. Equitable natural climate solutions are key to our approach in developing and delivering high-quality, high-integrity carbon projects across the APAC region. We currently consult with Indigenous communities in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Laos throughout the implementation of our projects to optimise social, cultural and environmental outcomes.
