Recent research by the Northern and Western Regional Assembly lays bare the need to adopt a regional approach for the revised National Planning Framework to overcome sizeable infrastructure deficits in the Northern and Western Region. The Northern and Western Regional Assembly has urged the Government to fast-track the delivery of 13 major infrastructure projects, as their research has found the region is now on par with the least well-off areas of Europe in terms of infrastructure. Further research found that the region received less than 10% of the nationwide investment in infrastructure projects in contrast to the Eastern and Midlands Region of Ireland which received 66.5%. The WDC applauds the NWRA on their findings and supports their submission to Government to address these infrastructural deficits. This report from Sir John Armitt and the National Infrastructure Commission focuses on how for the Infrastructure sector can continue to drive this country’s economic growth, while also working towards our climate targets. Political uncertainty, short-term decision making, and difficulties with the wider planning process, and frequently quoted factors that hold back our economic growth. The review highlights a pressing need for acceleration in infrastructure projects, with increased emphasis on greater detail in proposals and financial certainty (both private & public funded) ensures reduced risk for local authorities. As a sector, we recognise the urgency conveyed by NIC Chair John Armitt – a long-term vision for the future, needs to be combined with strategic decision making and the appropriate funding models to ensure schemes progress. And how can councils afford to contribute their share of infrastructure spending over the next decade? One step would be to not leave the over $2 billion of rates unpaid by rental property investors who pay residential rates on properties they own for the purpose of earning taxable income. Charging commercial property rates on residential investment properties could collect over $20 billion in additional council revenues nationwide over 10 years.
🛠️ Infrastructure Minister Christopher Bishop has welcomed the first steps from the Infrastructure Commission in developing New Zealand’s 30-year National Infrastructure Plan. To help inform development of the National Infrastructure Plan, the Infrastructure Commission is seeking input from across central and local government, from Māori/iwi organisations, the private sector and the public. It's fantastic to see Infrastructure NSW taking bold steps towards a sustainable future with the release of the National Embodied Carbon Measurement for Infrastructure: Technical Guidance. This document provides a consistent approach to measuring embodied carbon in infrastructure projects developed in close collaboration with other Australian jurisdictions—a crucial move towards effective carbon management. At MI Engineers, we couldn't agree more that consistent measurement is the key to driving meaningful progress in infrastructure decarbonisation. While navigating these new standards might feel overwhelming, we're here to help. With extensive experience working alongside large asset owners in the UK, we've developed comprehensive carbon libraries covering PAS 2080 Modules A, B and C for whole-of-life assessment. If you need help figuring out where to start or need guidance in implementing these standards, MI Engineers is ready to support your journey to a lower-carbon future. Please get in touch with us via our website for more information: https://lnkd.in/gt3MY8YY #InfrastructureDecarbonisation #Sustainability #CarbonManagement #MIEngineers #NetZero
We're delighted to announce the release of the National Embodied Carbon Measurement for Infrastructure: Technical Guidance (National Measurement Guidance). The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Act is under review. Thomas Pozzi and I discuss the review process, which seeks to ensure alignment with the Northern Australia Action Plan and support infrastructure investment that delivers economic and community benefits to Northern Australia. With so many opportunities for growth and investment above the Tropic of Capricorn, why not help Government drive effective investment and inform the review!
Introduced in 2016 with bipartisan support, the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Act 2016 (Cth) (the Act) established the Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility (the NAIF), which was intended to provide financial assistance to infrastructure projects in Northern Australia. Eight years later, it is time for another review of the Act and the continued operation of the NAIF. In this article, Senior Associate Kimberly Eichorn and Solicitor Thomas Pozzi in our Finance practice discuss the Australian Government’s review of the Act, what’s next, and how you can help inform the review: https://lnkd.in/g3YBge2n

🇪🇺 Did you know that Eurozone nations tend to be slower at rolling out major infrastructure projects – but do so at lower cost – compared to peer countries like the UK, US and Australia? This and other insights are unveiled and explored in BCG’s new research into UK infrastructure delivery, which looks at 2,300 projects globally from the past two decades. How can these challenges be overcome? Our report draws upon best practice case studies from around the world to help answer this. One such example is the Dutch planning reform of the early 2000s, implemented by the government in the face of increasing time and cost overruns for infrastructure projects. Our research looks at this and many other areas in which Eurozone nations do well, often including remarkable cost efficiency per kilometre when it comes to rail and highways. 🚆 An essential read for anyone involved in planning and delivering infrastructure projects in any nation, the full report is available here: https://on.bcg.com/4cjHNH9

New Water Advocates Call to Action - Support Funding for Water Infrastructure in FY 2025! Write your Members of Congress to urge them to provide robust funding for water infrastructure funding programs in the fiscal year 2025 budget! Through the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021, Congress demonstrated a historic federal commitment to support the efforts of communities to repair and upgrade their water infrastructure. It’s now critical for Congress to include full funding for the programs authorized in IIJA, as well as several additional existing programs, in the FY2025 budget. Without this funding, communities will struggle to make progress on the local water infrastructure investment that Congress pledged to support through the IIJA. Please use the WEF Water Advocates grassroot outreach tool to write your Members of Congress today (link in comments)

What do you think about the infrastructure investment and jobs act? America faces a significant challenge with civil infrastructure modernization, lagging behind by trillions of dollars and falling further behind each day. While other countries are advancing, America is using infrastructure as a means to fund various initiatives, neglecting critical civil infrastructure projects, as highlighted in the ASCE slide. #Infrastructure #ASCE #Modernization #CivilEngineering #fixinfrastructure
