  • 2024 – you’ve been big and we’ve been busy, but we’ve made it to the end 🎆 Check out our mammoth year in images 👇 The highlights? We’ve opened a new line below the city, kicked off final conversion works on the Southwest Metro, completed a viaduct and tunnelling on the Airport Metro line and dug deep to deliver a large portion of the new tunnels for Sydney Metro West. Phew. Bring on 2025!

  • Spotted! The first metro railway tracks for the new Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line have arrived in Luddenham, ahead of the start of track laying along the 23-kilometre alignment next year. The steel rail is delivered in 20-metre pieces. It will then be welded together into 120-metre-long rail strings, before being installed. Once open, Sydney’s new metro railway will connect Western Sydney with the new International Airport and existing transport network.

"If women are set on wanting to join the construction industry or if they are interested…I'd say 100% join, I've had no regrets", Site Engineer Emily Asson tells us. At Sydney Metro, we're focused on empowering women to consider education and careers in construction. Since the start of the project, more than 8,000 women have helped deliver Australia’s biggest public transport project. A diverse workforce is a valuable asset and generates better outcomes. As Project Director Alia Karaman says in the video below, “what women bring to the workforce and particularly what I'd like to say I bring is a different outlook, is the way we look at problems, the way we solve problems". In the first video of our Women in Construction series, produced in collaboration with NSW Women in Construction, hear from Sydney Metro's leaders on the value women bring to the construction industry. • Big things happening on the Sydney Metro West project! By big, we mean cavernous! Excavation of the crossover cavern at Westmead is now complete ✅ The cavern ranges from 15 to 29 metres underground and was excavated in three stages using roadheaders and rock hammers.   With excavation complete, the focus now turns to construction of the cavern with waterproofing, steel fixing, formwork installation and concreting works continuing into the new year.   The crossover cavern will allow trains to cross to the other track during maintenance or in an emergency on the 24-kilometre line that will connect Westmead to Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.

  • Crane be gone! Dismantling a 400-tonne tower crane in the heart of the Sydney CBD as part of the Hunter Street Station build is easier said than done. What did it take? 🏗️56 hours 🏗️ 54 workers total, including 34 members of the crane crew and 20 traffic controllers 🏗️ 56 semi-trailers to transport pieces of the cranes The crane was on site for 16 months to assist with early works activities like delivering scaffold, removing steel and lifting heavy pieces of equipment into the site.

  • Sydney Metro is Australia's only fully-accessible railway, but not all disabilities are visible 🌻   You may have seen passengers on the network wearing the bright green sunflower lanyard, or you may wear one yourself to indicate a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent. The Hidden Disabilities sunflower indicates the wearer may need extra help, understanding, or just more time. Staff at Sydney Metro's stations are trained to identify the sunflower and provide support to ensure a safe, smooth and seamless journey for everyone. Plan your journey on the M1 North West & Bankstown line on the Hidden Disabilities website and learn about the accessibilities features at each station: https://lnkd.in/gu2kWVaA
