A great application in aviation , but if it is developed in ships or boats thrust impellers will gain better thrust and maneuverability added with fuel consumption relative to long routes accomplished.

Incredible Innovation from DLR!
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) has developed a groundbreaking biomimetic wing prototype that promises to revolutionize flight efficiency. By mimicking the aerodynamic principles found in nature, this innovative design has the potential to significantly reduce fuel consumption.
This is a major step forward in sustainable aviation.

TL;DR - Excited to share that as per 1 November 2023 I’ve joined the Elysian team as Head of Funding. After 2 years of research Elysian has just launched while unveiling its E9X conceptual design; an industry-leading battery-electric aircraft capable of carrying 90 passengers on flights up to 800 km.

On our world trip with the family last year we covered a significant distance, also by air travel. While an unforgettable experience for us and the kids we probably spent all of our carbon budget for the rest of our lives as well. During our trip, I got interested in the subject of sustainable aviation. Would my kids be able to do a similar trip with their kids in ~30 years from now?
Several solutions are being worked on to decarbonize the aviation sector with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrogen (H2) and battery-electric attracting the most attention for their potential to decarbonize aviation. While we likely need a combination of all solutions, battery-electric will play a significant role. With continuously improving battery prices and energy densities and, fundamentally, with its high end-to-end / ‘well-to-wake’ efficiency being up to 5x better than the other technologies it will be (very) cost competitive to operate while leaving the non-wasted renewable energy to still decarbonize other energy uses.
Battery-electric aircraft, therefore, will be preferred and used to their maximum potential. Now, after 2 years of having followed a first principles approach in reassessing the real potential of battery-electric aviation the team has come up with a design optimized around battery-electric propulsion: the E9X, to enter into service in 2033, is capable of carrying 90 people on flights up to 800 km (based on 360 Wh/kg at pack level), and further as battery energy densities continue to rise. With those features the E9X has a significant and growing potential to decarbonize shorter-range flights. Note that <1.000km flights represent half of all flights in the world and 20% of global aviation carbon emissions which can then be avoided, or even more in a web approach.
Of course there is still a lot of work to be done (and funding needed) to further develop the E9X in coming years but I have great confidence in the team, and the added industry experience of its advisors and the wider Panta group.
Anyway, excited to have joined the team as Head of Funding and help them get zero-emission flights a step closer.

Safa Sabet and Nur Çobanoğlu attended the 14th #EASN International Conference - "Innovation in Aviation & Space towards sustainability today & tomorrow" in Thessaloniki, Greece fron the 8th to the 11th October. The #EASN2024 Conference provided a platform for examining the contributions of key stakeholders in Europe's #Aviation and #Space sectors. The presentations highlighted recent findings from multiple thematic sessions, incorporating insights from both academia and industry, with an emphasis on current advancements in #aviation , #technology and #sustainability .
Within the framework of the EU Clean Aviation funded project #TheMa4HERA, Safa Sabet presented a numerical study entitled “Numerical analysis of Potential Energy Recovery via TEG for the Next Generation of Hybrid-Electric Regional Aircraft” on the 10th of October. The study investigates the potential integration of thermoelectric (TE) technology in the next generation of regional aircraft. We are excited to share this and future studies that can help in the advancement of the aviation sector!
