My journey as an intern has been incredibly fulfilling and enriching. Each task presented unique challenges and opportunities for growth, shaping me into a more competent and creative professional. Now, as I approach the end of my internship, I reflect on the exciting projects I've had the privilege to work on. 🚀 For my final project as a graphic design intern, I was tasked with redesigning a website, and I chose to revamp the streaming website called Goojara. It was an exhilarating experience from start to finish. As a movie buff myself, I thoroughly enjoyed diving into the world of web design and exploring ways to enhance the user experience. With a blend of creativity and technical skills, I redesigned the website to make it more user-friendly, visually appealing, and efficient. From crafting sleek layouts to optimizing navigation, every aspect of the redesign process was a thrilling challenge. As a result, I not only redesigned the website but also gained valuable insights and experiences that will shape my future endeavors in the design field. 💻🎨InternCareer #womeninTech

Insights from last week’s (Monday, September 30th) Speaker Series with Bex Creatives: Q: What are you currently working on? A: Right now, I’m focused on photographic work, including concept creation and managing contracts. The skills I’ve learned from the program, like organization and time management, are now essential in my business. Q: What internships have you taken? A: I took a web design internship because that's the direction I wanted to pursue. It was a freelance position for an organization in Oakville, where I worked one day a week for 7 hours. The internship helped me manage my time better, stay organized, and use the connections I made with professors. Q: When applying for internships, do you recommend a website or printed portfolio? A: I recommend a PDF portfolio. Include 5-6 pieces but no more than 5 pieces in each category. Make sure to show the step-by-step process, including sketches, wireframes, user testing, and research. Q: What are some portfolio tips you shared? A: -Include 5-6 pieces, no more than 5 per section. -Show step-by-step processes with sketches, wireframes, and user testing. -If it’s a physical portfolio, keep it small and cohesive. -Don’t overload with too much content—it can water down your message. -Focus on projects that represent your branding; if a project doesn’t align, scrap it. -Personal projects stand out more and help make a lasting impression. -Start building your portfolio early—it’s constantly evolving as you grow. Q: When did you land your internship? A: I landed my internship later, closer to the end of October. If you’re waiting to apply, don’t delay—just do it. Start emailing small businesses and get your name out there. Q: How important is your resume for an internship? A: Your resume is very important because it highlights skills that might not be in your portfolio, like volunteer work or unpaid gigs. These skills can show you have valuable experiences outside of graphic design. Q: What if you’re considering changing streams? A: Whether or not you change streams depends on your goals. Having knowledge and skills in multiple areas can be useful and fun. It allows for more versatility in your career. #mohawkcreativeindustries #connectthedots

🌟 Internships vs. Externships: What’s Best for Aspiring Graphic Designers? 🎨 Choosing between an internship and an externship can be pivotal for your career as a graphic designer. Each option offers unique benefits that could shape your creative journey. Let’s break it down! --- 💼 Internships for Graphic Designers - Hands-On Creativity: You’ll work on real projects—logos, social media graphics, branding materials—building a portfolio that speaks volumes. - Skill Development: Learn industry-standard tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Figma while collaborating with a team. - Networking Opportunities: Build connections with clients, designers, and marketing teams, which could lead to future gigs or full-time roles. Why Choose an Internship? If you’re eager to dive into the creative process, solve design challenges, and produce tangible results, internships are the perfect way to gain in-depth, hands-on experience. --- 👀Externships for Graphic Designers - Observe and Learn: Shadow seasoned designers or agencies to see how they handle design briefs, client interactions, and tight deadlines. - Industry Exploration: Gain insight into different design fields—advertising, UI/UX, branding—to decide where your passion lies. - Quick Exposure: Ideal if you’re curious about graphic design but not ready to commit to a long-term role. Why Choose an Externship? Externships are a great starting point for those exploring career paths or transitioning into graphic design. They help you gain clarity without the pressure of deliverables. --- 🎯For Graphic Designers, the Right Choice Depends on Your Goals! 🔹 Want to build a killer portfolio? Go for an internship. 🔹 Still exploring where your skills fit best? Start with an externship. 🔹 Want both? Use an externship to decide your niche, then apply for an internship to sharpen your skills in that area. --- 💡My Advice: Graphic design is a versatile field with endless possibilities. Whether you’re designing sleek UI interfaces or crafting memorable brand identities, internships and externships are valuable steps to turn your passion into a thriving career. 🚀 Ready to Take the Next Step?
