Why choose Graphic Design at Mohawk College? Our alumni are living proof that our 3-year Advanced Diploma program gives you the tools to be successful in this ever-growing industry. Tomas Jaramillo Cordoba is a recent alumni and Freelance Designer and writes of his experience in the program: "I chose Mohawk because the program offered a diverse and exciting curriculum that aligned with my passions and future goals. What made it even better was the ability to select a stream that matched my interests, like UX/UI in my case. From that moment, I fell even more in love with my career. It’s a program where your professors become your closest allies, always there to support and guide you." --- Interested in pursuing a career in Graphic Design? Recognized annually on November 19th, Women’s Entrepreneurship Day serves to acknowledge the significant contributions of women in the business world. In honour of the day, we are proud to feature some of the many successful business owners and alumni of the Mohawk Graphic Design program, including Rebecca Lee: I’m Rebecca, the photographer and designer behind Bex Creatives. Since graduating from Mohawk College’s Graphic Design program, I’ve been building my business to combine my love for photography, design, and storytelling. Whether I’m capturing the fast-paced action of sports or creating timeless portraits for families and couples, my goal is to preserve meaningful memories that people can cherish forever. With a background in Media Communications from Humber College and Graphic Design from Mohawk, I bring a unique perspective to my work, blending technical skill with creativity. Bex Creatives is my way of sharing these passions with others, offering vibrant and heartfelt photography and design services to celebrate life’s special moments. My advice to anyone starting their entrepreneurial journey is simple: never give up and keep pushing forward. Success doesn’t happen overnight; building a thriving business takes time, effort, and persistence. Growth comes from hard work, determination, and the resilience to keep going, even when challenges arise. Stay committed, and the results will follow. #WomensEntrepreneurshipDay #MohawkCreativeIndustries #MohawkGraphicDesign #GraphicDesign #Entrepreneur

In honour of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we are proud to feature some of the many successful business owners and alumni of the Mohawk Graphic Design program, including Katie Contesti: My name is Katie, and I'm a two-time graduate of Mohawk College's TV Broadcasting & Telecommunications Media and Graphic Design programs. Since graduating, I’ve gained experience across video production, communications, graphic and web design, and marketing, eventually leading me to open my own business in March 2023. Through roles in production management, videography, and marketing, I built the expertise and confidence to help small businesses succeed—and I love every moment of it! My advice for new entrepreneurs would be don’t wait until you feel "perfectly" prepared, because that moment might never come. Be open to opportunities that come your way, even if they feel a little beyond your comfort zone. If something feels right in your gut, trust it; often, growth happens outside of our carefully planned timelines! #WomensEntrepreneurshipDay #MohawkCreativeIndustries #MohawkGraphicDesign #GraphicDesign #Entrepreneur

Happy Women’s Entrepreneurship Day! Recognized annually on November 19th, this day serves to acknowledge the significant contributions of women in the business world. We are proud to feature some of the many successful business owners and alumni of the Mohawk Graphic Design program, including Amanda Jackson: Hi, I'm Amanda! Graphic Designer and current owner of Green Palm Design Studio; based in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario! I was an Executive Assistant for 10 years and after losing my job in 2019 I decided to enroll in Mohawk’s Graphic Design program as a mature student and graduated in 2022! I’ve been running my freelance business since 2021, at first to earn money and build my portfolio while in school and post graduation it grew from there! If I can give one piece of advice to entrepreneurs getting started is "when you brand yourself properly, the competition becomes irrelevant" - stand out against the competition! Don't be afraid to be yourself, be creative and leverage your skills! #WomensEntrepreneurshipDay #MohawkCreativeIndustries #MohawkGraphicDesign #GraphicDesign #Entrepreneur

Today we celebrate Women’s Entrepreneurship Day! Recognized annually on November 19th, this day serves to acknowledge the significant contributions of women in the business world. We are proud to feature some of the many successful business owners and alumni of the Mohawk Graphic Design program, including Abby Kompare: Abby Kompare is the owner of Figment Branding, a brand and web design studio in Hamilton that helps creative small businesses look their best! Shortly after graduating Mohawk College’s graphic design program, she started her business and started to network with other local creatives in the Hamilton area! Figment Branding is beyond grateful to have helped 30+ creative small businesses since their launch, and is excited to be expanding and rebranding in the new year. Abby’s advice for entrepreneurs getting started? Be yourself, get connected with other business owners, and share your business on social media. Being yourself is what will initially draw people to you! Attend local events and networking nights in your city, don’t underestimate the power of casual connections! Social media isn’t on the job description, but it sure can accelerate your business. It’s important for people to have a face to go alongside a business name. Entrepreneurship is hard at times, but it is all worth it! #WomensEntrepreneurshipDay #MohawkCreativeIndustries #MohawkGraphicDesign #GraphicDesign #Entrepreneur

Mohawk's Graphic Design program prides itself on the vast amount of experiential learning that our students are exposed to, including student field trips! Last May, ten of our Graphic Design students went to New York City to compete in The One Club for Creativity's Young Ones competition. One of our students, Nicola Cross catalogued her journey: "This past spring, I joined a team of advertising students to compete in the Young Ones competition. I did not know what to expect competing, but it was an incredibly valuable experience. I took on the responsibility of editing the campaign video and creating some posters based on the vision and script provided by the advertising students. Throughout my time creating the video and posters for the competition I gained experience working in a fast-paced environment, learning how to quickly work using the revisions I was provided. Our team (Cheyenne Powell, Rebekah Morrison, Claire Price, and myself) ended up making it to the second round! I got to meet up with the advertising students on the graphic design/advertising student trip to NYC. During my time there I toured NBC Studios, attended a taping of The Late Show, visited the Met’s new costume exhibit “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, and saw an amazing production of “Cabaret”. A truly inspiring trip. Thank you to Mitch Thompson and Michael Carson for inviting me to NYC as well as Rafael Peixoto Ferreira and Jeff Petrossi for their amazing guidance during the Young Ones competition!" #MohawkCreativeIndustries #MohawkGraphicDesign #YoungOnes
