Vietnam Animal Aid’s Post

I’m going to say something very controversial for an animal rescue: STOP USING ANIMALS. Stop eating their flesh and secretions. Stop wearing their fur and skins. Stop experimenting on them. Stop using them for your personal entertainment. Stop breeding them. And I’m not just talking about dogs, cats, minks, elephants, and dolphins. I mean EVERY species. This is an extremely controversial post for a rescue organization that has saved cats and dogs from the meat trade in Vietnam. To save dogs AND be against the use of all other species for food, clothing, entertainment, and research is financial suicide. EVERY SINGLE TIME WE TALK ABOUT VEGANISM WE LOSE DONORS. But saving dogs and cats doesn’t give you the right to harm other animals with impunity. Every animal feels. Every animal suffers. Every animal needs protection from humans. If we spoke only of dog meat bans, we’d be rolling in it. The financial struggle would totally end. I know because this organization began as an anti-dog meat organization 11 years ago. We had broad public support, support that quickly waned as I talked more and more about other species, the same species those donors who “loved animals” all paid to torture and kill. We were outright attacked as extremists. We lost our vet clinic because the dog-loving donors withdrew their support from us vegan terrorists. But we will never be an organization that stays silent about the 3 trillion animals on land and in the sea killed mostly by people who say they are against animal cruelty. This entire industry of rescue is screwed if moral consistency something we should be silent about for financial reasons. So let’s turn this around. If you run an advocacy group of any kind and you continue to support the unnecessary suffering and death of trillions of animals with your actions or just your silence, it is YOU who should be ashamed of yourselves. YOUR hypocrisy is what should be condemned, not the moral consistency of vegans in these fields. If people who work for animals are those we are rescuing animals from, we’ve got some very big problems. Let’s make moral consistency the norm, not the exception! #veganfortheanimals #veganism #animalwelfare #animalrights #animaladvocacy #speciesism
